Having Festa, SWR, Matthews, and Morris as 4,5,6,7 is a recipe for disaster for next year. Having 25 year old Festa and Mattews starting in the minors looks good for depth but also shows at that age they are not ready. Kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Mike Sixel 1

mnfireman Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Lee was injured to start the season and has 282 PA at AAA, he was rushed due to the injuries and ineffectiveness - who else is getting called up when Correa, Lewis, Miranda, Julien, Farmer, et al are injured and/or not performing, Keaschal was also injured/not available. Maybe an injury free off-season will allow him to work on things. RpR, Mike Sixel and DJL44 2 1

bean5302 Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 I was at the game last night through the 10th inning before departing before it got too late for me and a friend. This team is just not very good, but it was a great night for a game for sure. The tiny crowd was also quite electric considering the size. It was really a fun atmosphere, honestly. I'm comfortable saying that the Pohlads, who have watched the value of the Twins grow by a billion dollars regardless of how they perform, and who received a half billion dollar handout from fans, would not go bankrupt without a $30mil payroll cut. bean5302, P Meyer, D.C Twins and 2 others 3 1 1

No…unless you believe Atlanta is a 70% probability favorite in every matchup. The Royals will be scratching for a win as well…if the Twins are winning. Baseball Reference has the Twins in playoffs at a fraction over 2% probability. And based on momentum and body language, that’s probably 2% too high. bean5302 1

jkcarew Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Maybe not in importance (this is just a wildcard), but in pure magnitude this collapse dwarfs 1967, 1984, 2022, etc. 12-24…12 wins over 36 games! And a collapse this long and this complete, not only is allowed, but deserves, multiple causes of death when the autopsies come in. Flawed roster injuries player underperformance, all phases bad managing lack of support at deadline Something this monumental and complete can’t happen with just one or two things going wrong. Now…what can be fixed by 2025?
David Maro Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Hard to know how to run the bases when the plan is hit a homerun. They are coached to swing for the fences and that is all the fans want to see. Then of course just listen to the Clowns in the booth talk about this guy or that guy is he going to be the one hit the homerun. Someone needs to be held accountable for this utter farce. Can't blame the Pohlad's for this collapse (well, not entirely). The coaching and managing has been abysmal. The buck should stop with Baldelli. It's his team, he should be the one to be fired. But there are valid arguments for the dismissal of Popkins and Maki (Popkins in particular) instead. The hitting has been largely abysmal with RISP. While the pitching has also gone backwards, Maki may get a pass due to the sheer number of injuries there. Our season was on the line and we lost a home series to Miami. Are you kidding me? That is embarrassing. As long as we are talking about getting rid of coaches, how about Watkins? I think he about the worst 3rd base coach I have ever seen. Doctor Gast and USAFChief 2

D.C Twins Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 If the Twins bring back Rocco... they are going to experience something far worse than disappointment, frustration and anger..... they are going to experience indifference... by enough fans that it will hurt their bottom line. Of course, if the lowering payroll, decreasing performance, fan apathy death spiral continues.... in 2-3 years they will start threatening to move in an attempt to hold the fans hostage.... and then actually move if it doesn't work.... P Meyer Verified Member Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 A couple thoughts. 1 - Always tough on the fans. 2-It felt like the Twins played to their collective talent, especially at the plate. 3-In the entire MLB, 163 players registered over 401 at bats on the season. The Twins had Willi Castro, Carlos Santana, and Ryan Jeffers. That just isn't going to cut it. 4-Not sure how much Rocco controls that, but the Twins need better talent day after day. NYCTK 1
