He's a young starter that shut down the Tigers offense, get him off the mound before things unravel. It's not a ridiculous way to look at the situation. Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Yep, the 27th man must be demoted after the game. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/27th-man "That player accrues one day of MLB service time and is returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader." mrtwinsfan and h2oface 2

Brock is correct that they have to be sent down. BUT, because he doesn’t have to stay down the normal 10 or 15 days, they can immediately bring him back up in exchange for someone else, which effectively does what Lecroy is describing. In the case of a starting pitcher, it doesn’t make sense to do that, however. Go ahead and send SWR back down, but you can still bring him back up for next Friday or Saturday if you want, but you still have several days’ access to the guy you would send down in his place. Right, I see what you're saying. Technically he is returned to the minors but because there is no restriction on call-ups, he could be demoted for literally five seconds and then brought back to the major league team. h2oface, mrtwinsfan and IndianaTwin 3

stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 On the 27th man, technically the player has to be sent down, but he can stay if someone goes on the IL and can be promoted immediately if someone else is optioned or DFA’d. I’d like to see SWR get another start or two in place of Varland (maybe moving Louie to the BP).
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Are we now only a game and a half behind the Tigers? Good for us.
jkcarew Verified Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Detroit’s a very weak team offensively. Still…2 earned runs in 21 innings! Lotta pitchers stepped up today. Danchat 1

IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Beautiful job by SWR. With it and with the efficient bullpen work, no relievers enters tomorrow’s game having thrown more than 32 pitches in the past two days. Guys will need to go back to back, but everyone besides Funderburk, Jackson (both through yesterday and today) and Sands (28 pitches today) is probably available for at least a batter or two. Since I put in a request earlier for SWR to go six innings, I’ll go ahead and request that for Ober for tomorrow. Richie the Rally Goat 1
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Honestly SWR got charged with an earned run, but without his own fielding mistake, it would have been six scoreless.
