I didn't see a current FWN thread, so I thought I'd start one, with this tidbit from yesterday's Game Thread.

Baseball-reference.com confirms that no player has maintained a 3.500 OPS or higher for more plate appearances in a season than Royce Lewis's 2.  He's in elite company!  (Company that includes King Felix Hernandez in 2008., with a homer and a sacrifice bunt.)

Here's hoping that this distinction doesn't exist for too much longer.  Unless of course he keeps this up all season when he comes back.

The White Sox are on pace to score 0 runs this season, 0 extra base hits, and strike out 1,782 times.

The White Sox suffering?  My, that IS fun (with numbers).

And some starters have a 22.00 ERA or higher. These early numbers mean nothing though it's some fun to laugh at them. Most things even out in the long run to what the player's real ability is. Oh, there are some exceptions like Brady Anderson hitting 50 homers, a player (Cubs outfielder I can't remember) going 5 for 5 on opening day or players having super walk-off years (and dopey GMs paying them a fortune because of it) but most things average out.

This isn’t fun with numbers, but rather fun with nicknames: Arraez’ nickname is “la regadera” which means water can.  He sprinkles the ball everywhere.  Hadn’t heard that one before.

Luis is also on track to have 54 hits, walks, and strikeouts this year. I'll be the over on hits, gotta get it now before the oddsmakers catch on.

Once upon a time there was a light hitting utility player named Ron Gardenhire that was leading the national league in batting average. Early numbers are nice when they look good. Like the Twins being 2-0 instead of 0-2. Or a closer not giving up a run in the ninth for an ERA of 0.00 verses giving up one run for an ERA of 9.0.

The magic number in MLB is 5. Score 5 runs, you win more than you lose. Score 4, you lose more than you win.

Through 20 games, the Twins have scored 5 or more runs 3 (three!) times.

Three. The last time was April 13th.

And doesn’t one of those 3 games include a game where they had FEWER than 5 after 9 innings?

I did not comb the site carefully so maybe someone already pointed this out, but in the box score for yesterday's game Sano struck out twice in two plate appearances. He was replaced by a pinch hitter, Ehire Adrianza!(!), who proceeded to.... strike out twice in two plate appearances.

That W was obviously an inside job.

Since starting the season 3 for 47, Farmer is 11 for 36 since his season opening slump and has 6 doubles too in that time (a .306 BA and .472 Slg%).  I hope he can get his average over .200 soon as I am sure that will be a relief for him to see.

He's going to have to hit at the higher rate for another 36 at-bats to get to the Mendoza line (actually 10-37 would put him there). It's a steep mountain to climb. We are closing in on 1/3 of the season and Farmer has zero homers, that is almost as surprising as the low batting average.

With yesterday's game, Royce Lewis has surpassed Jair Camargo for 16th most plate appearances on the Twins in 2024.  Next hurdle to pass: Matt Wallner.

Going into play on June 16th, Aaron Judge leads MLB with 48 extra base hits.

Forty-eight.

That can't be right, can it? He had that many in 6 games against the Twins.

Lewis is tied for 4th place on the team in HRs with 7 in only 41 ABs.  Also he is averaging a HR every 6.833 ABs or you can say he has a .171 HR batting average (HR / AB instead of H/AB for average calculation).
