I know we're all pretty fixated on what our boys are doing, but has anyone been watching the Pads? They're going bat-sh*t crazy!

Do they list a corresponding move yet? Will need a spot on the 26-man and 40-man.

edit: looks like Cotton is gone, among possible other moves

heh ... I just posted that tweet in the Rosters thread

Yeah they're well over the luxury tax threshold now.

"Mahle already on the Twins 26 man roster on mlb.com"

He is the 27th man, haven't optioned or designated anyone yet.  Lopez hasn't been added, so the Twins have to remove 2 pitchers.

Looking at the Twins website ... Lopez was added to the 40-man, but hasn't been activated yet

Unless Kirilloff is going on the 60-day, don't they need to clear another spot? Cotton gone for Mahle. Who is Cave bumping?

Did they use an option on him? If so, that can only mean they're stalling hoping to trade someone on the 40-man right?

As stated above ... Cano was moved, so Mahle was put on in his place ... and Lopez will replace Cotton. But yeah ... not sure wha the corresponding move will be if they activate Cave

So far:

Mahle, Lopez, Cave added to 26 man and 40 man

Cotton DFA'd, Kirilloff to 15 day IL, Cano off 40 man roster (was already optioned to AAA).

Looks to me like we'll need one more 26 man spot and one more 40 man spot.

Strotman immediately comes to mind… Maybe Sano back to 60 day IL?

Contreras would be an obvious cut for Cave.

That's what I'd think. I don't mind bringing up Cave as long they keep him away from CF.

I'm a little confused why they would cut Cotton but not Joe Smith.

It's going to take a while to sort out the 40-man "cuts" from the 26-man "cuts", and the page at mlb.com that I always rely on is going to be a work-in-progress for the next several hours.

I'm a little disappointed Strotman hasn't figured into either trade so far.  Must speak to him having 0 trade value.  He'd be a DFA candidate, once the team knows for sure how many 40-man spots they actually need.  They might not know, themselves, for another 65+ minutes anyway.

As was fully expected, the Twins land a backup catcher as Caleb Hamilton was not going to cut it. Leon should be up sooner than later.

I think they could've done a little better than that.

Not only are the White Sox and Guardians mostly sitting out this trade deadline, one of them is sending us (admittedly minor) reinforcements.

Funny, this is the one I think could bite the Twins the most. Hamilton seems like one of those journeyman nobodies that Cleveland could turn into a bullpen weapon.

Sandy Leon for Ian Hamilton.  With all the roster churn I never quite understood why Ian didn't get another look in Target Field.

Leon has had five consecutive seasons now, with an OPS in the .500s.  Caleb Hamilton to the Twins: Am I A Joke To You?

I see on MLBTR the Twins got a catcher from the Guardians.  Is this the other trade you mentioned Brock?

He was stating another starting pitcher.  But so far nothing on the other deal.

Perhaps, but the Twins have neglected him for so long that it's not much different from cutting him and Cleveland picking him up. The Twins weren't going to call him up, so it's no loss on our end.

With his .595 career OPS I never understood how Leon kept getting so many looks.

Well I'll be nervous if he takes the mound with the Twins down a run against Cleveland this year.

He gets looks because he really good on the defensive aspects.

And he'll take a walk and has a tiny bit of pop.  It's not easy to OPS .522 these past five seasons when your BA is .178.  :)

Cut what exactly? Leon is a career .211 hitter who hasn't hit over .200 since 2017 and is currently hitting .133. Yikes.
