Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 The 2021 season just keeps delivering body shots. After being an absolute trainwreck for much of the season, Jorge Alcalá has been transferred to the IL. Sigh. It finally appeared that Alcalá, who has all the velocity and promise in the world, may have turned a bit of a corner over the past few weeks and showed signs of becoming the dominant reliever we all hoped he would become before this cluster-you-know-what of a season began. But nah, he's on the IL now because of course he is. That's not his fault..... He should have been up much sooner. I have no idea how they will gather any MLB data on the arms actually on their system of they won't call them up. No idea how they plan to build a bullpen next year at this rate. Hopefully they prove me wrong....

Moran and some of the others that have shown some success can battle for the 7th and 8th spot or continue to hone their skills in St Paul

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Well... The Beau Burrows support sure looks a little silly right now... (not that any one game should matter, but the timing of this is unfortunate. Ha!).

Admittedly, it is a small sample.... If AAA and AA weren't full of potential RPs, you could keep trying.... But there are so many options that, imo, they should get ready for next year.... That he should go to AAA or be claimed by another organization

That he should go to AAA or be claimed by another organization Yup, I agree... again, I have no problem with the claim, and I'd have no problem moving on from it quickly. With him throwing 45 pitches in the first inning and now being thrown out there in the second inning, it's pretty clear the organization sees no future. They wouldn't do that to any prospect... I'd expect the move soon. Who knows? Maybe tonight.
Linus Verified Member Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Alcala is still more suspect than prospect at this point. I don’t understand the fascination with prospects that have control issues. I’m afraid it’s another example of hubris from our front office.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 The injury to Alcala really sums up the season. Tons of potential! He flashes potential and gets more crucial situations and you see that potential and get your hopes up. And then he stinks. (Young kid, not going to bash him). And then he looks like he's maybe figuring a few things out and might be ready to grow and finish strong. And then he gets hurt. 2021 wrapped up in just 1 player's season. (Sigh) The Burrows experiment should be over. Garcia brought up? Well, I guess he's on the 40 man due to the waiver claim. Not sure I like it, but I get it. But it better be a very short lease. It's one thing to make claims and give auditions. You MIGHT strike gold for a year, or two, maybe more. But you just can't ignore some young arms in your system who have done nothing but flash and demand opportunity.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Hey, just saw the box score from tonight. Has Burrows been DFA’d yet?
Major League Ready Verified Member Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 We should have expected this once Alcala started pitching better. That's they way it has gone this year. Rodgers / Garver / Buxton / Kirilloff / Refsnyder got hot and got hurt.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Our "nice thing" Jorge Alcala may be activated for the series in Boston beginning Tuesday: https://www.startribune.com/twins-jorge-alcala-could-be-ready-for-activation-for-boston-series/600090158/ Quote Jorge Alcala threw a bullpen session shortly before Saturday's game, and Twins manager Rocco Baldelli sounded optimistic that the righthander, on the injured list because of a triceps strain, might be activated for this week's series in Boston. "Him being here with us, that's an indication of where he's at physically. He's doing much better," Baldelli said. "I would consider [the injury] minor in general. Certainly there was something there, but he's healed up nicely.
bean5302 Verified Member Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Glad to hear Alcala is doing better. Any "arm" related strain is stressful for a pitcher and I don't think anybody enjoys seeing guys who've put decades of work into their craft forced to sit and watch the games instead of playing them because they're hurt.
