Is Yang really good, or our hitters just bad? That’s about as good as you can look in your first MLB inning.

Two previous outings. 4+ innings each out of the pen. One mediocre, one very good.

Just took it over the plate and walked back to the dugout. Nice job Kepler.

Since math isn't allowed here [though I violate that rule roughly 4^2 + (10 * 2^3) percent of the time], I'll drop in a little history.

It's actually a popular misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day. The Mexican War of Independence (from Spain) lasted over more than a decade, ending in 1821. Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16, 1810.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's May 5, 1862, victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It's a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Chicano activitists raised awareness of the holiday in the 1960s, in part because they identified with the victory of Indigenous Mexicans over European invaders during the Battle of Puebla.

See https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/cinco-de-mayo for more, including numerous spots that I quoted directly.

Hyeon-Jong Yang is Andrew Albers, Korea edition. Crafty lefty whose stuff is okay for about once through the order. After that, the Twins should show him the boom sticks.

Nice play, Thorpe.  Hurry up and pitch before Baldelli  comes and takes you out and automatically puts you on IL.

Thorpe doing a very nice job of limiting hard contact thus far, and when he did give up hard contact he knocked it down with his glove. Pitch count is low. Great news. Twins need to flex their muscles and turn this one into a laugher

I see no reason to keep Shormaker over Thorpe in the rotation. Lewis has looked way better since his velo gain and might be on track to be a #4 starter again. Shoemakers upside is low and likely going to be hurt soon.

Thanks for the historical clarification. (and 96%... leaves some room for improvement.)

Cinco de Mayo just sounds cool. Almost as good as Hellmann's mayo.

Sano goes on IL and regresses 4 years.

If only he could regress back to his rookie self, when he was way better...

I don’t care if Buck costs $30M a year. We need to pay him and Berrios.

Just once I'd like to meet a crafty righty. I'd shake his hand, but he'd probably give me the slip.

They need to do a DNA test on Buxton.  This is not the same man/player from years past, albeit a small sample.

So, what you're saying is that he hasn't regressed enough?

Kyle Hendricks is one of the few remaining throwing 88 and below!

So what happened to Thorpe's added velo?

He's only thrown one fastball this inning, but he hit 92 a couple times earlier.
