rdehring Verified Member Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Boo, bah humbug! And agree about these 7 games. The good news is that by going on the IL he should be able to rest it and hopefully, hopefully be ready to go come the playoffs. Coming back on the 19th will give him almost ten days of games to get sharp.
denarded Verified Member Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Why is this bad news? Smeltzer is back, baby!
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Not our .400 hitter!!!!!
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Blech. Hopefully he can be back for the postseason.
Crackedfungo Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Anyone Smell Zer. The guy just doesn't have the right stuff or pitch savvy to get away with his subpar stuff. The opponents figured him out after last year. Why not Colina, Chalmers, or even Duran? We have seen enough of DS. He has 'undrafted' velocity
terrydactyls Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Smeltzer rather than Blankenhorn or Duran??? That just smeltz wrong to me.

Not good new heading into a critical next 7 games... https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/luis-arraez-placed-on-injured-list-by-twinsI'm happy about this. Arraez has been subpar and playing while injured for the past month. It's obviously not getting better. Let him heal.
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Why not call up Royce Lewis now? He's hitting well, and he'd fit right into either SS or 2B, as well as another center fielder.

He so needed not only as every day at 2B plus also sub Polanco & Buck

The guy they are paying a lot of money to fill the role of 10th position player starter hasn't hit at all for over a month. I suspect they'll keep trotting Marwin out there hoping that he will start hitting as he did in the first few weeks of the season.
tarheeltwinsfan Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 The Twins are one injury away from needing Royce Lewis. I hope that doesn't happen this year. Along that line, where do you see Royce Lewis playing next year? , SS, Polanco, 2B, Arraez, CF, Buxton, 3B, Donaldson.corner OF, Kepler, Rosario and the triple headed prospect or Kirilloff, Larnach, and Rooker.?..Maybe Super utility in place of Gonzo? Nice problem to have

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Given what the organization did with Arraez last year, I suspect that if they believed Lewis was ready to help, he’d be here.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Yeah. Lewis time. Who would we remove from the 40-man? Maybe give up on Odorizzi and put him on the longterm ILould be a possible replacement for Adrianza or Gonzalez Once again, Nick Gordon for some odd reason loses out on a chance to play in the majors. Having Arraez go down with an injury opens up the door for someone who is the future to get a regular look. Even Blankenhorn, who would be a possible replacement for Adrianza or Gonzalez, assuming neither are coming abck. We know what Smeltzer can do. We know what Thorpe can do. If we want another lefty, give Sam Clay a shot (again, who goes off the 40-man). But YES, Arraez going down would be the perfect time to see if Royce Lewis can shine for ten games. The FUTURE, folks! In a season that is still winnable, strange, but is still a prep for 2021.
bighat Verified Member Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Disappointed to see Smeltzer called up. He's a long-reliever and mop-up guy, and evidently not a very good one.
