thuuuuney Provisional Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Catch-UpBaseball is..weird. We went from an assault on batters in Kenta Maeda to, yesterday. But the beauty of this is there's always more baseball and tonight the Twins have an opportunity to bounceback and speaking of bouncing back, we get to see if Jose Berrios can tonight. The Twins are also estimated by nearly every playoff projecton metric to be at or above a 97% chance to make the postseason so more caution will be exercised with Buxton and Garver being put on the IL, although Garver's injury sounds like the worst blow so far as Jeffers has been called up to split time with Avila. Milwaukee Batting OrderMinnesota Batting Order**Jeffers makes his big league debut! Storylines1. Jose Berrios breakdown via Twins Daily writer Ted Schwerzler (Notebook 8/20),To say Jose Berrios has been scuffling in 2020 would be putting it lightly. He’s been relatively ineffective, and ultimately inefficient. He’s failed to make it past four innings in two of his five starts, and his longest outing was six innings of one-run ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For a staff ace and an Opening Day starter, you need better. There’s been plenty written about what may be going wrong thus far. One thing of note is that Berrios has actually experience a career high spike in velocity with his fastball averaging 94.9 mph. His 11.1% whiff rate is near a career high, but the chase rate is down four percent from 2019. He’s dipped five percent on his first pitch strike rate, working from behind nearly 40% of the time. His hard-hit rate is where things are really going awry however, as the Puerto Rican is seeing the ball launched a whopping 49% of the time (33% is his career average).
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Wow. Jeffers right into the lineup. Good luck to him!
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I think Jeffers’ recall is a signal that Garver won’t be back for awhile. I hadn’t heard anything about Buxton, but it sounds like more extreme caution. I sure hope so.
FlauerPauer Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Shocking that Buxton is back on the IL...
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I’m very excited about seeing Jeffers!
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 The game is also on FS1, apparently. I'd be curious if folks outside the Twins normal blackout area are blacked out from this game on MLB.TV? It's a little unusual to see a game on both FSN and FS1.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 So what's the deal with the rain in MPLS? Asking from Central America.
curt1965 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 With Buxton out, why not bring up Kiriloff?
hybridbear Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 So what's the deal with the rain in MPLS? Asking from Central America.Scattered showers it seems. Very few.
hybridbear Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 So what’s the story with Buxton & Garver being hurt?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 With Buxton out, why not bring up Kiriloff? He's only coming up for everyday playing time, and he wouldn't be getting that. He's a fringy COF, and more than likely a first basemen. Also, Cave is more than capable of filling in for Buxton, offensively.
Diesel Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I know this forum wasn't extremely happy when Jeffers was drafted, but I hope he continues to prove us all wrong!
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Berrios strikes out 2 in a clean first...good to see
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Nice first inning for Berríos!

twinbythebay Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Six(!) swings and misses in the first inning for Berrios. That may have been his best inning of the season so far. Keep 'em coming, Jose!

Didn’t realize that it was on FS1, so I can actually watch a game here in northern Indiana.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Looking for Berrios to settle in and pitch like we all know he can tonight, so far so good
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Berrios with another quick, clean inning. Looks locked in early
twinbythebay Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Mad respect for Jeffers just brushing off that foul tip. That would've put me in the hospital.
Sielk Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Very encouraging to see Jose hitting the edges of the zone constantly after his control was so off in his last starts.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 After seeing Jeffers take that foul tip, made me think of seeing this earlier today.

ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 This is not a Twins lineup that will strike fear into anyone. Reminds me of ... oh, I don't want to think about it.
