That wasn’t on Schoop. The dude turned and ran right at him as he tried to get out of the way.

 

A questionable call at best. As far as I know, the runner doesn’t get a ten foot path in which to run directly at defenders.

First, I've said this before. The call is obstruction, not interference as Dick and LaTroy called it. Experienced baseball people should be able to use correct terminology.

Second, it looked to me like the baserunner left the basepath. Not much we can do about the umping there.

Next time a runner gets caught in a run down, I guess they should just run into a defender after that defender gets rid of the ball. Seek them out.

I’ve never seen it called when the defender is so obviously trying to get out of the way and the runner moves 3-4 feet laterally, directly at the defender.

The obstruction call on Schoop was crap. The runner went out of the baseline to make contact with him. He doesn’t have the right to do that.

Good job by Jose to get out of that..Schoop could have moved faster but sure looked like Engel was looking for contact..it worked i guess

Fortunately no run scored. Only harm was the extra unnecessary pitches to finish the inning.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how it is acceptable for the runner to be moving at a 90 degree angle away from the base path.

I've always thought the best decision if you manage to get caught in a rundown was to run into a defender. I just always imagined it happening on the basepath, though.
