PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 It's gotta be harper up next. In case they need length in case this goes 18... again. But they'll likely want to pinch-hit in the 11th if the game isn't over.
FlauerPauer Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I do like the Twins chances if this goes longer than a couple more innings. The offense will get a hold of one here in the next couple at-bats.

TwinsFanSince86 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 When Dyson and Romo are among the 'best' options, you have a problem. When they're the best options for a supposed playoff contender, then you have a gigantic problem.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Just two years ago in the 2017 season, Sam Dyson was DFA'ed by the Rangers on June 1st after starting the year 1-6 with a 10.80 ERA. He's certainly turned things around in San Fran after reportedly adding a new cutter to his arsenal and has had a really stellar 1.5 seasons with the Giants. But he's not all that far removed from being a complete dumpster fire. I refuse to let 1 game shape my opinion of Dyson. But to say my confidence has been shaken a bit would be accurate.Eh ... I'll give him a couple to settle in before I'm shaken. I think asking him to pitch as soon as he got off the plane was a big ask.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Whos next= Trevor May ? why not Hope not, would prefer Harper myself.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 You can say the pitching blew this game, but the bats have been very bad against below average arms
VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Top of the 10th wasn't very inspiring.
TwinsFanSince86 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Outside of Greene who was a better reliever moved at the deadline? That's only part of the argument, though. They had an entire off-season and half of the regular season to put together a competent bullpen. They failed, miserably. I'm not giving them a participating medal for finding Dyson at the deadline.
MNT1996 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Manager didn't handle this well but we do have limited options. Would rather have seen May or Harper in the 9th but it's hard to have confidence to May. I just hope that Baldelli doesn't get like Molitor did and only pitch two guys until their arms fall off. I've seen people blame Rocco for today's game and I don't necessarily agree. Yesterday I thought he did a terrible job managing the bullpen but today I thought he managed well. He put a guy in the 9th who the front office traded for and thought was going to help the team...he didn't. He had no other option but to put Rogers in if he wants to win because there's very few reliable arms out there.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Since Rogers came in with the lead, will he be tagged with a "blown save" on that one? I believe he will. Almost criminal if so, but then again he did give up a bases-loaded hit. Still man, that's a rough BS next to your name after that gutsy performance.
rdehring Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Don't know if we are going to win or lose this game. But the Marlin's sure have the momentum right now. If we do lose, I think Baldelli must share equal blame as Dyson. Dyson got to the game while it was in progress. Recall seeing some hugs in the dugout, don't recall what inning it was but was early. In the last 20 hours or so he learned that he was traded, made arrangements to travel to Miami early this morning. Today he got up early, got to the airport for his flight, got from the airport to the stadium while the game was in progress. Then goes into the game what, two hours later. I don't think that was a good idea.

TwinsCD Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I blame the front office 100%. Rocco has no other choices. 3-run game, nobody on, 2 outs to get. If anyone not named Rogers can't nail that down against the Marlins, they shouldn't be on the big league team.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Hope not, would prefer Harper myself.Hoping this May-The Dodgers are set to call up Dustin May to make his Major League debut at home on Friday
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I'm actually pretty shocked Rocco is getting so much blame. He gets some of it sure, but it's more on Dyson.
VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Always nice to get the first guy out.
TwinsFanSince86 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Rocco was probably thinking - up 3 runs against the hapless Marlins and 97 year old Curtis Granderson due to hit - easy way to introduce Dyson into the fold. Whoops!

They had an entire off-season and half of the regular season to put together a competent bullpen. They failed, miserably. I'm not giving them a participating medal for finding Dyson at the deadline. Neither am I, but even looking at the relievers in the off-season, only a handful are doing anything good. I was hoping they'd snag Ottavino and Britton, but other than those guys, it was kinda bleak. Guys in the organization need to step up and throw quality strikes. Dyson had fine numbers with the Giants and the Twins gave up little to nothing to get him.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Dyson gets paid millions of dollars to be ready to pitch at any moment (and be effective). He should be the sole person to blame.Oh, hogwash ... the guy just got off a plane from the west coast, to a new team, knows no one, and gets put on the mound to pitch? Come on ... we didn't put Romo in last Sunday and many even said at the time that would not be a good idea. I'll give the guy a bit of leeway here.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I'm actually pretty shocked Rocco is getting so much blame. He gets some of it sure, but it's more on Dyson. I have to imagine Rocco asked Dyson if he was good to go. It's not like this was the first time this scenario has ever played out. Dyson had a bad day, it happens. And I don't think Rocco wanted to use Rogers in either of the last two games (including today) but felt he had to in order to salvage the game. That's not a good sign, but it is the reality.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I'm actually pretty shocked Rocco is getting so much blame. Nearly impossible to do one's job under such demanding conditions...
