Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Typical Beslisle, geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sox announcers said that was intentional. Not sure I believe it, but a ball gives no possibility of a foul tip to the face mask.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Think he meant giving up the double.Oh, well, he’s done now, too.
S. Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Think he meant giving up the double.Belisle just wanted to finish his career on a familiar note
Blake Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Why, Molitor, why? Belisle? Really?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Sigh. That was the saddest ending to a disappointing season.
jimmer Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Last PA of his career, an opposite field double. Then he dons the tools of ignorance one last pitch. And the Twins win!
S. Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Incoming 2 months of "should Joe Mauer make the HOF" articles before the trade rumors start heating up. Don't think he could've asked for a better last game. Gets a double, comes out behind the plate, gets a win. Even as someone who thinks it is good that Mauer is retiring, still is an emotional day for Twins fans, as many Twins fans probably don't remember a Twins team without Joe Mauer.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Not that it mattered or would have ruined Joe's day, but I am glad they finished off Joe's career with a victory (and a pretty good final homestand, even if it was against sub-par teams).
AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 That was a way better way to retire than those ridiculous “tours” that Jeter and others did. And so much more Joe, too. Well played, Mauer. Congratulations on a great career, Joe.
jimmer Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Still saying he hasn't decided whether he will retire or not. But with all that happened today, he's almost certainly retiring, and if he isn't, it's certainly his last game as a Twin.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Sox announcers made Joe the player of the game in their post-game wrap.

But with all that happened today, he's almost certainly retiring, and if he isn't, it's certainly his last game as a Twin.I cannot imagine any scenario where he plays another game for a different team. I just don't see it happening. A team that has a chance to get him a pennant isn't going to sign him, and why would he want to play 1 more year with a different team that isn't a strong World Series contender?

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Classy way to send off Mauer. Well done everyone.
snotboogie Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 A really fitting, emotional last game, a great last AB and sentimental defensive substitution, two little girls at home and another child on the way. It's hard to believe that he'll be back. If he does come back, that'll really show how great his love for the game is.
jimmer Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I cannot imagine any scenario where he plays another game for a different team. I agree, it would be very un-Joe. I think he's done.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I am glad that we were able to share this through a game thread. I am wishing Joe all the best, along with our fellow Twins fans who have contributed to game threads.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Trevor May looks like he has a future in the closer role. 12.6 K/9 looks solid, and his 1.8 BB/9 is a career low. His demeanor on the mound is pretty solid as well. I heard the teammates call him Lurch, which is pretty hilarious.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I regret that I was pulled away and couldn't watch the game. I'd hate to meet the Twins fan who wasn't moved by the highlights I've now caught up on.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 I'm with those who have already mentioned that it would have been very un-Joe-like to announce the retirement early and have every road trip turned into a farewell tour. My guess is that he decided at least a month or two ago that this would be it.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 The kid and I watched the first half of the game and then listened to it on the radio enroute to my parents'. Pulled up to their house just before the top of the ninth. We stopped to talk to the next door neighbors in their yard for a minute and then, quite alarmingly, my parents' door flew open and my dad came running out of the house. My dad is 83. The last time I saw him run, George Bush was president. No, not that one. His dad, H.W. He yelled to me only that 'Mom says come quick!', waving us inside and urging us to hurry. Mom is 80, and the way my dad sounded, it suddenly wasn't looking good for 81. But when we got inside, she was sitting there silently, staring at the television with the volume turned way up, just pointing at the screen as Mauer strode to the plate in his catcher's gear. We all watched it together. Nobody spoke until it was over. How remarkable that a seemingly forgettable season would end with a moment that ranks among the most memorable in the history of the Minnesota Twins.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 If that was the send off it was very nice! Joe had a great presser after and I'm glad they televised it. Interesting, yet I don't think he's made up his mind yet.

Interesting, yet I don't think he's made up his mind yet. They hold him as emotional a Going Away party as you'll ever see, and he's still waiting to hear back from HR as to whether he's accrued enough hours to satisfy Social Security yet? Oh, I don't think so.
