Your 2017 twins lineup?

Here's my lineup.

2B Jorge Polanco

SS Eduardo Nunez

1B Joe Mauer

3B Miguel Sano

RF Max Kepler

LF Eddie Rosario

DH Bo-hung park (Palka could push here)

C Juan Centeno

CF Byron Buxton

So in this situation I got rid of Dozier and Plouffe and kept Nunez. I think this lineup could afford to get rid of Nunez. I think pitching is going to be this teams Achilles heal so I won't even go there. Thoughts?

Too early to tell.

But Centeno?  Really?  How about Murphy?

And flip Nunez and Polanco, trade Nunez and find a second baseman (Beresford.)

Really, this should be the Twins' 2016 lineup

2B Jorge Polanco
SS Eduardo Escobar
1B Joe Mauer
3B Miguel Sano
RF Max Kepler
LF Eddie Rosario
DH Byung-ho park (possibly Vargas)
C Wilson Ramos
CF FA

BN = Vargas, Murphy, Nunez, Grossman, Beresford.

This is not a batting order.

Might scrap Beresford for a 4 man bench depending on staff.  Go big or go home in FA on C (and yes, I know I'm dreaming on Ramos, that's what I would do though as there's not really a ton of help in the minors.  Garver might be ready at some point, but he's far from a sure thing).

I think Dozier's an off-season trade candidate and I'm holding out that Buxton has a solid second half.  I don't think the Twins need to look FA position players really.  Maybe a utility infielder if Nuñez and Dozier are traded before opening day.  The main problems with the lineup this year had to with the effects of Sano playing out of position and too many guys taking bad at-bats.  Hopefully with a lot of the season left to play, the young guys can get some experience.  Besides, our win-loss record has a lot to do with having literally the worst pitching staff in the league.

After they go 60-21 the second half win the Wild Card game and have a good showing in the playoffs I don't see much changing from the current lineup.

I see the Twins keeping Dozier, unless someone REALLY comes up lame for a second baseman next spring training.

I would like to see basically the leftside changed with Plouffe, Escobar AND Nunez all departing, and seeing if Polanco CAN play shortstop, with the reserves being Santana and possibly Beresford or Tovar or someone else.

Outfield of Rosario, Buxton, Kepler with Grossman in reserve and Walker on standby.

I would like to see Vargas get some playing time, maybe a couple of weeks this season before you bring back Park. Just to see.

Catching is a mess. I was surprised the Twins didn't take a flyer on Fryer when he became available again, and send down Centeno and hope that Murphy will come around.

We all want to see Berrios up here, and would love to see Wheeler as the next in-line for the rotation, since it appears May is doomed for the bullpen or future development as a closer. Of course, we still have Meyer in the wings.

Not a batting order, just as I see the roster as of now:

LF Berrios

CF Buxton

RF Kepler

OF Grossman

3B Sano

SS Escobar

2B Dozier

1B Mauer

DH Park

UTILITY Nunez, Polanco, Santana

C Murphy & Centeno

I'm still betting on Park improving and sticking at DH. Beresford and Vargas are on the outside looking in for the moment. The team will look at trades, waiver wire, FA for a 3rd catcher option.

My roster has 14 position players. This allows for a single injury, and a possible trade of Nunez or Dozier (possibly Polanco). DH could also be a rotating position if Park or Vargas doesn't take hold of the opportunity.

ROTATION:

Santana

Gibson

Duffey

Berrios

May

Wheeler, Dean and Meyer are your reserve options. If Santana should be traded for any kind of decent return, as I talked about in another thread, you have a hole that may be filled by a veteran FA to be signed, possibly on a 1 year make good deal.

BULLPEN:

Tonkin

Pressly

Chargois

Rogers

This is your start. The pen is just too fluid right now to call. Abad and Boshers could be LH candidates. I'm thinking right now Kinzler may be back on the cheap. I'd really like to see a quality FA signing here to remove some pressure from the younger members and bring some stability. I'm thinking, at least to begin 2017, that youngsters like Melotakis, Burdi and others just aren't ready yet.

3. Joe Mauer 1B

4. Miguel Sano 3B

5. Carlos Gomez LF (Not sure he would want to come back but I would try.)

6. Byung Ho Park DH (If he comes back late in the year and produces, I think he will.)

7. Wilson Ramos C

8. Eduardo Escobar SS

9. Jorge Polanco 2B

I'm obviously not a believer in Rosario. He will not succeed with his current K/BB rate. I would love to be wrong.

We would overpay to bring back Ramos and Gomez, but guess what, the Twins can afford to. If Gomez continues to struggle this year he will probably sign a one year deal and try to bounce back. Worth a gamble.

I'd trade Dozier at the deadline or in the off-season.

Don't understand the big push to dump Dozier. Yeah, he started horribly, but at this point, his average, etc are on career high paths and his contract is manageable.

CF Buxton

1b Mauer

2b Dozier

3b Sano

RF Kepler

DH. Park/Vargas/Palka

LF Rosario

SS.Escobar

C Murphy

Closer. May

I would be interested to see if we could upgrade the SS position. Texas has Andrus and Odor, with no place for Profar to play, there was even talk of sending him to AAA. Starters, May should either be the closer or a starter

My reasoning is that he has good trade value and is 29 years old. I honestly think the Twins are 3+ years from being actual playoff contenders so I'd rather go younger.

It's not a push to "dump" Dozier. It's a push to trade him for something of value.

The Twins have a legitimate second base prospect in Jorge Polanco. If you can get a good return for Dozier, then this team should do it. All rebuilds -- and this is still a rebuild -- include a trade of a quality player. The Twins have not done so yet.

You could keep Dozier if the return isn't great. But frankly, if this team can't get a good return on an all-star second baseman with pop who can run the bases, fields well and is on a team friendly contract, then I totally give up.

But it's not a "dump."

I've read all the proposals and your's is the most realistic.  Polanco as a utility player to see what he can really do.  I'm not all that sure about Pressly:  his windup looks more like a starter than relievers.

Then there's that Berrios guy in left field.  He seems out of position there    ;)

Brock I get it Mauer's been bludgeoned to death in every thread for 3 years, but '2017 lineups' is all we have to hang onto here, so can someone please imagine him hitting in the bottom 3rd?

I'm just playing (obviously) but you're right that Mauer isn't a three hitter anymore.

But I'd still probably hit him second because his career low OBP (.338 in 2015) is still pretty good. It'd be nice if he was faster and didn't clog the bases but that OBP can still do some good near the top of the lineup.

But not third. You want extra base power in the third spot.
