Brock, you can come up whatever you want, and get the fan board all riled up, but that's not the way TR is going. Why not put the same effort in trying to figure out how to revamp the starting rotation prior to the end of the year?

We have not yet lost 100 games, much less 115+, and Ryan has every intention of our favorite team contending in 2017.

How many people would bother to read, let alone post, at TD if during a season this crappy nobody talked about what the Twins have done wrong or what they should do differently? A dozen? Fewer?

With regard to your second point, what if the Twins DO go apewaste and play .500 ball to close out the season? They'll still lose 93 games and rank among the worst teams in baseball.

In broad strokes, what does a basement-to-contention one season turnaround consist of for the Twins in your estimation? It would be a historically drastic reversal. It's been done before, but the '91 Twins are a brilliant illustration of what a series of breaks and even borderline miracles that kind of thing takes.

And however you feel about Terry Ryan, or the Pohlads for that matter, you should be aware that if they start shoveling 2017 contention nonsense in the off season, they're going to shoot their remaining credibility in the foot with both barrels.

Spike you are a moron. You could have just said gut the core and go young. Sheesh......

I gave that a like too. The gut part, not the moron part. I'm undecided on the Sheesh.

There's a few guys who might go at the July 31 deadline but more seem likely to be traded after August.

History tells us this will probably be the case.. Sigh....

In August, everyone (including Mauer) can be put on the waiver wire and decisions can be made at that time. If there is interest, pursue!

Not much to argue with here, Brock. I would say that I am not giving up on Polanco at short, at least until the Gordon and Vielma duo arrives, so if that means shopping Escobar instead of Dozier, that works for me.

I certainly think that Vargas and Beresford could he helpful bench guys.

Bullpen should feature Chargois, Meyer, Rogers, Burdi, and Melotakis.

I can certainly be talked into trading him and won't lose sleep if they do. I also think there's still a fit on this roster to have a LOOGY. Not sure what his arbitration number will look like, but if it's around the $1.5 million range, I wouldn't be opposed to offering it to him and seeing what happens.

why would you carry a LOOGY on a 90 loss baseball team? The bigger concern is long men (plural) stretching out May and starting Berrios will have some short starts. You will need all of your relievers to be capable of pitching an inning plus and 1-2 arms that can go 2 plus and warmup quick. Otherwise yeah agreed w/ the go young and go all-in on the rebuild

I don't know what to do about Polanco / Dozier.....and that's on the FO. They are out of options next year, and no one has an idea if he's a MLB player or not.

I wouldn't be mad if they dealt Dozier, I wouldn't be mad if they kept Dozier.

To me, the BIG changes I want to see:

Sano at 3B

May in the rotation

Chargois in the bullpen

I don't see now we get May into the rotation this year. Can he be stretched at this point? Sano at third...please yes. Chargois in the BP, yes please.

For Dozier, a concern is the inconsistent production. He has awesome two-month stretches and then goes dark. Polanco has mashed at every level of the minors, has been pretty good in small samples at he majors, is faster then Dozier, is a switch hitter, is 23, etc. I think he will make Twins fans forget about Dozier.

Don't wait for the right offer, if a pretty good offer comes for Dozier, take it.

I would also get rid of the BUNT placard hanging above the doorway in the clubhouse that the players all tap on their way out to the field before every game, but that's just me.

Absolutely. The guy is injured. Put him in Ft Myers for ten days, then put him in Rochester for another 10-15 days.

He should be nearly stretched out in three weeks. He might not go more than 90 pitches or five innings for a start or two in Minnesota but that's fine.

Drew Butera. Morneau, Liriano, Kendrys Morales,  Carroll, Willingham.  Fuld.  I think those are the players traded by Ryan during the season the last few years.  Those trades netted Nunez, Escobar and Milone.   It might be out of the norm for Ryan to trade something of value  to get prospects during the season,  Any player over the age of 26 on the 40 man should be a candidate for the list.  Any of the relievers traded as fill in for someone else's bullpen can always be picked back up in the off season.  There is no need to keep all of them.   Other than Dozier or Nunez, they all would be 9/1 candidates.

I am having a hard time caring about what the roster will be and I blame TR for that fact.  Sorting out his confusing plan leaves me cold and thinking about trades and roster moves for this team seems futile.  Nice exercise, but tough to get excited.

Maybe what we need is a new stadium.  We were told we needed this stadium so the Twins could compete - well that sure didn't work so maybe we should start over or trade with the Saints.

Santana's home run was impressive. Tight, quick swing. You know what was even more impressive? Grossman's walk. Eovaldi is throwing the ball 100 mph, and Grossman had 2 strikes right away, still managed to squeeze out a walk. That was really impressive.

MOD NOTE: This topic was pretty clear - what's your ideal roster on 8/1. This is not an indictment thread on TR. If you don't want to talk about roster and the how and why you'd name players on and off said roster, or comment on others' roster construction without going down the FO indictment trail, then don't comment.

Just wondering, has something happened to make Nolasco trade worthy? Or will it require the Twins to eat a bunch of salary?

Also, I think Grossman should be traded.

I don't see Grossman returning to the Twins next year if he keeps producing like he has. I think Grossman hits the FA market and signs elsewhere in the off season.

Grossman is not eligible for free agency until 2021 at the earliest.

Really? But didn't Grossman come to the Twins after opting out of his contract with the Indians? That isn't a free agent signing by the Twins?

Or is free agency determined by big league service time?

That was a minor league contact.

If the Twins want to retain his rights they can for 4 more years.

Okay, the rules governing free agency for MLB players are rather arcane, to say the least.

Major league service time is what counts. He wouldn't even be arb legible next year if the Twins decide to keep him.

He was released by Houston, making him a free agent. Signed a minor league deal with Cleveland, then released from that.

In reality, it's doubtful that ever comes into play, IMO. I dont think He's good enough to keep a job through 2021.

This is where it's weird, because a team can release a player, making him a free agent, yet, the player is still bound by MLB service time rules.

I understand he's not good enough to to last in MLB until he reaches free agency, but, you'd think a player would at least be able to cash in a little bit while he can, especially if he was released and therefore free to sign with whomever was willing to take a chance.

Traded: E. Santana; Grossman; Abad; Plouffe; Dozier; Susuki; D.Santana; Nolasco;

DL: Hughes; Meyer; season ending

Let the young guys lead and play as they have in Chattanooga and Rochester.  Let Molitor be their organizer and manager and let the young guys go go go.  Guarantee they feed off of each other and grow without the pressure of failing the veterans.  Your future leader is a combination of the young guys and not Dozier and Mauer.  Those two are key to the game but not to leadership.  8 of these 13 position players are 25 and under.  That is our best option for long term success.  If you can get a star in free agency great.  History tells us otherwise though!  You're talking Minnesota, where you have snow outs.  Lol

i think in order for the Twins to trade any of Hughes, Nolasco, E. Santana, Mauer, the Twins would have to pay a big chunk of their salary. They might have to pay a couple years. However they would have to spend that money regardless, and they aren't going to go get high end free agents in a rebuild, not for a couple years anyways.

Whether or not they'd do it, who knows? I can't imagine much love for dead contracts still on the books.

When he was a free agent, Grossman was free to sign with anyone, at any terms. And he didn't do too bad on that front, eventually finding a team to give him a guaranteed MLB job for while, making $500k, getting health insurance, and collecting service time not only toward arb and free agency, but also toward his eventual MLB pension.

While a free agent, it is quite possible Grossman could have signed for more money overseas (and then come back to a mild bidding war if he was successful, I suppose).

Ah, so it's not all bad, then.

90 pitches and 5 innings is one hell of an outing for this rotation anyway.
