What About - Trade Sano, Keep Plouffe?

Recommended Posts

Watching the Sports Show on 23CW last night and there was talk about Sano having a bad attitude (weight issues, hanging out with friends at DR REsorts when he should've been shagging fly balls in Fort Myers . . . ).   Sano probably has more trade value than Plouffe.   Trading him could light a fire under Sano, leading to years of regrets by Twins Fans complaining about the "bad trade".  However, that doesn't mean Sano would have gotten it accomplished here.  Plouffe is a solid major leaguer with a good attitude.  Other teams trade the prospect and keep the solid veteran.  Why not the Twins?  Just a thought!!!!

Not a fan of this idea at all. He is a potential super star, he just needs better leadership, and to be put in a situation to succeed (and may or may not have attitude issues).

Also, Plouffe is a barely solid veteran right now, and they aren't near competing. This is not the time to get older.....imo.

If Plouffe was a solid veteran I'd agree it could be entertained. He is basically a friendlier Danny Valencia though and Sano is an elite prospect being jacked around by an incompetent front office.

Common sense would tell you to immediately move Sano to 3rd and either deal Plouffe or have him move around and play 1B/3B/OF all positions he's played before.

That said, I would sooner believe Terry Ryan learned to fly than figured out how to manage a major league roster.

This poor attitude crap is just trash being thrown out by the FO to take heat off of them.

Id say Sano has the attitude of a saint to have handled being jerked around as well as he has.

Desperation and ridiculous statements follow teams that are miserable.  What else is there to do?  How else do writers get readers, shows get viewers?  Stupid statements have been the forte of the media for years.  But we do not have to give them any credibility.  There have been a lot of difficult players from Ty Cobb to Ted Williams to Manny Ramirez.  But we pay for managers, coaches, and FO to deal with difficulty not run from it.

"Sano probably has more trade value than Plouffe".

Understatement of the year right there.  And I would tie any attitude issue of Sano to him just starting to realize that leadership has no clue what they are doing.

I would not think of doing this.

I imagine that being on a 11-31 team doesn't help anyone's "attitude" or "morale"

No. No. No. No.

This "bad attitude" talk has got to stop. Where do these rumors come from? Fire whoever is doing this nonsense. The guy will be a superstar. He should also be the goddamned third baseman. I must have said "trade Plouffe" 100 times last year and into the offseason.

The poor attitude, work ethic criticism has to stop.  Personally I find it to be more of a stereotype than anything concrete.

If this were a veteran (Non-Latin) player there would be no concerns.  He spend a portion of his off-season on vacation.  So did every other player in baseball.  He shouldn't have had to spend it shagging fly balls because he shouldn't have been put in that position to begin with.

He is 22 years old and ultra talented.  No way he is traded.  If they did that I would just quit being a Twins fan.

The Souhan Column today describes alleged bad attitude from Hughes and Perkins.   If that's true, and it's also true about Sano, then it's time to deal Sano while he is still a valuable young player.   I suspect also that this may be FO stuff, except for the fact that Reusse noted the alleged problem with Sano before the season started.  If this is part of a cancer in the clubhouse, then the cancer should be excised!  I'd say the Twins should trade Perkins and Hughes, but nobody would take them!  By the way, the closest Perkins and Hughes get to being Hispanic is to enjoy the taco bowl at Trump Tower.   By the way, I just noticed the last five letters in Hispanic are PANIC!  So maybe there's a subliminal thing going on

Reusse was the one complaining about Sano last night.   He started this tirade when Spring Training started.   Souhan took aim at Hughes and Perkins in today's Star and Sickle.  Maybe trade both Plouffe and Sano and play Nunez full time over at 3B?  I'm only partially kidding,.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.,.

Ruesse has no standing calling out anyone else's attitude, period.

Talk about pot calling kettle black.

Cue "Dueling banjos."  Here's a thought:  Instead of blaming a 22 year old kid for not running with the instruction of "learn a new position in the off-season", we lay (at least a portion of) the blame at the feet of the 62 year old kid(s) who decided that was a good idea in the first place.

Okay, in 2017 it will cost $10-12 million to retain Plouffe on the roster. After that season he becomes a free agent. If the Twins are foolish enough to pay that amount for Plouffe in 2017, they they might as well try and sign him NOW for $30+ million over three years. see if he will take it or not. Fo

r

that amount of money, I would just as soon take a chance on Sano for 3 or so years and then worry about arbitration and free agency.

And WHAT would Sano get us? An aging veteran for a young team? Two or three other prospects who may rate high at High-A or even Double AA but still need another year or two of development in the minors? Would we get another team's high-level prospect who may also have issues?

Plouffe would be valuable to the Twins or almost any other team if he is a super sub, playing third, first and the outfield. But what would you pay in actual dollars for that type of player.

Y

es, he may be tradable, where third year arbitration and pending free agency is a problem for anotehr team. He may end up like Michael Cuddyer and get an outrageous offer from some club and end his career making millions more than any of us can imagine.

I like Trevor Plouffe. He ahs done everything the team has asked. He is a solid guy to have around and if we didn't have the logjam at DH and the issues at first base, he could be our first baseman/DH, fill-in 3B and maybe see some time in the outfield if any of our corner prospects went down in the  future. That is IF we felt he was, right now, today, worth $30 million+ over three years (with an option for a fourth).

I want to see Sano at third in the major leagues. Really do (why he didn't play everyday Plouffe was on the DL is beyond me, and makes me condemn the coaching staff and management). I have my fingers crossed that there is no - shades of Cristian Guzman - issues involved. And if he keeps his hed together, he will thrive for the Twins, first at third base, maybe at first, or eventually the second-coming of David Ortiz for years to come, happily cashing his $15-20 million paychecks for 10 of the next 15 years!

There seem to be a lot of "bad attitudes" reported amongst the players on this team lately. So that means we either randomly collected a bunch of bad apples or there's another common source this is stemming from. Gee, I wonder where that could be?

Posted

The only teams that could pay the price needed to justify this trade would never trade proven major league talent that they liked in return. They'd want to add Sano to the arsenal.

Kershaw will not be coming back in return.

So... interested teams would offer a boat load of talented prospects and this would set the Twins franchise back a couple more years.

Hahahaha, what an idea.  I really can't understand why Plouffe is still here.  He's lead us to 11 wins all year, heading for 40.

The Red Sox will need a new DH next year I bet they'd take him.

We have them the last one, it's somebody else's turn! :)

Just to be clear, the Sports Show just discussed the alleged bad attitude of Sano (Mike Max and Reusse).  Reusse was talking about it just before 1PM on 1500 with ___ and Judd.    I was suggesting that if this was true, and Sano isn't willing to put in the work, maybe we should unload him and keep Plouffe    -  - -   Or maybe even go with Nunez as a fulltime 3B
