DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 This isnt a bash the Twins thread, but genuinely curious, has this ever happened in the history of baseball? The Twins have now been swept in 8 series, and only have 10 wins.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I am fascinated to see them get swept the next three series, to see if that has ever been done....more sweeps against that wins, this late in the year.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Interesting. The Braves only have 6 sweeps, to go with their 9 wins. The Twins and the Braves each have one 2 game series sweep. I guess it's mainly a function of the Twins concentrating their wins in their 3 series wins, while the Braves have only one series win.

Didn't half of our wins come during one winning streak? At this point it is clearly in everyone's heads, the Twins lose the first game and they just "know" in the back of their head its gonna end poorly, 180 on their opponents, who now go into the Twins series licking their chops expecting a sweep.
Dr. Evil Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Through 38 games, the Twins compared to the 4 teams that finished with the worst records during a season in the past 81 years. This does not include today's game. 1962 Mets 12-26 2016 Twins 10-28 1945 Phillies 10-28 2003 Tigers 9-29 1952 Pirates 7-31 Here are how those teams finished out the regular season. 1945 Phillies 46-108 1952 Pirates 42-112 1962 Mets 40-120 2003 Tigers 43-119 Yea......it's that bad.
Primetime82 Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 This team is so bad, it's almost not believable. FIRE EVERYONE! The scary part of all of this is ZERO players has progressed this season. Almost every top prospect has underachieved this season and every veteran has been JUNK! Duffy & Park are the only bright spots and Mauer been alright, but he's not doing so hot now. One of them didn't even make the team out of ST and the other one bats 6th.

Mauer got off to a decent start last year and was pretty bad after that. It looks like we may be seeing the same thing again this year.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Ron Burgandy said it best in these kind of situations: "I'm not even mad. That's amazing."
jimmer Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I didn't expect this team to be good. I guessed 78 wins. Looks like I was too optimistic, cause it would be amazing if they got to that.

gocgo Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 LOL! Just read a column about Dick and Bert being ranked low due to their unbridled homerism. I dunno if I could do their job. It's like being asked to polish a turd. How do you spice up the bland play that we witnessed today? This is a team that is content to lose.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Hey Molitor isn't convinced that we are out of this thing yet though! That guy needs professional help if he truly believes that.
Kwak Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 What's even worse is that despite 2016 being epically bad for the Twins, they won't even get the 1st selection in drafts because ATL will have an even worse season!

I don't believe that exists here. I'm not sure I've even heard Mollie or Terry call out a veteran by name.
nokomismod Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I can't imagine what the clubhouse, flight/road environment is like for this team. Hopefully they are pissed off. Who's going to take a bat to the sunflower seed dispenser??
Dman Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Twins just can't get any luck from the baseball gods this year. Must have used it all up last year. When the starter pitches well the bullpen loses the game. When the start pitches bad the offense shows up but we come up short. When the pitching goes well top to bottom we get no offense. Always seem to come up just short this season at least so far. Just need everyone to put it together to pull some of these games out.

Seems our defense is nonexistant
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 This really is unbelievable. No way they should be this bad but everything is failing. They look lethargic, don't seem to have a plan at the plate. Hack away. Other than Park and Mauer and sometimes Sano, they just give away tons of at-bats. I don't really like blaming the manager b/c this really should be a player thing but that is just too much for the manager to escape notice. Way too much underachieving. And Molitor doesn't really seem good at working with the younger players. People griped way too much about Gardy on that but Gardy never did what Molly did to Meyer or Rosario today. And if Dean or Rogers or whatnot is going to be making starts, what does that say about May? Didn't he get promised a shot? (Perhaps I'm remembering Molitor's ST comments wrong). I think a lot of last years success wasn't because of Molitor but rather because of Hunter.
zenser Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Serious question here. They have to have one all star rep. Who would it be?

jimmer Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 The blame falls mostly on Ryan with some Mollie mixed in. Players obviously too though the roster just isn't good and that's on Ryan. None of the younger guys seem ready and that's on the development of the young guys.

The on-paper talent level on the 40 man is pretty good. I've mentioned before but they have 7 OFers 25 and younger and 5 of them were top 100 prospects (naturally, Molitor is playing the one that wasn't the most). They have solid, on-paper, vets at first, second and third and enough arms to make an average rotation. The bullpen is behind but the arms on the 40 are pretty darn encouraging. Chargois, Burdi, Melotakis, Meyer (if he can't start) could go a long way to making a lockdown BP. This team should be better. And a lot better once those younger players get more PA. Molitor, though, I'm done with.
goulik Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Serious question here. They have to have one all star rep. Who would it be? Nunez (ok, I'll admit that wasn't a serious answer)
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 Park. He's leading DH's in WAR (last I checked) and would add a lot of Korean viewers to the game. Good story. Will be tough, David Ortiz certainly will win the fan vote for DH, also using war for DH is pretty pointless tbh. Park is "helped" by his play at 1st. But yeah, park deserves it anyways though, no doubt. Duffey has a real outside shot to make it as well.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I disagree. The on-paper talent level on the 40 man is pretty good. The performance just doesn't mesh with this. Hell, the FO doesn't even agree with you the last few weeks.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 Bright side: next year when the Twins and Braves meet in the World Series it will be even more impressive then the worst to first of 91!
