MLB Trade Rumors opine that the Sox would be willing to package him for a #2-type starter.  Would Gibson, Nolasco or Hughes work in some fashion, or be worth giving up?  I'm thinking Santana, Berrios and Duffy have to make up 60% of our rotation from here on out.

The conversation would start, and likely end, with Berrios.

The Yankees are looking to pull the plug on Headley at 3rd base. CC Sabathia is on the DL and appears to be near the end of the road. You would think within that set of information there would be a way for the Twins to pry loose one of the Yanks top catching prospects.

Those 3 you list are all #4 or #5 type starters.

Seth is right, the only pitcher we have that would interest the Sox is Berrios.

Of course!  NYY's previous trade for a MN Twin worked-out so well for them!!

I thought we already did that? :)

I'd be on board, but I don't know that the Twins have a #2 starter to give up.

If we send them 2- #4's, I think they would average 2 apiece. :)

Oh god

Let the ridiculous trade proposals begin.

I read that the Angels might need bullpen help....what about a guy like Abad for Trout?

I don't know if that will work - who do we throw in to complete the trade now that Duensing is gone?

Supposedly they already did...

You realize Nolasco and Hughes have negative trade value? The Twins would likely have to throw in a real prospect along with Nolasco or Hughes just to get the other team to take on the contract.

Devil's advocate right now:  Swihart's and JR Murphy's AAA and MLB numbers are pretty darn close.

On paper, I would not mind giving up Berrios for a young every day catcher with All-Star potential (because 150 games worth more than 35, and catchers are such a rare commodity)  but not sure that Swihart is that.

You know, not everyone is as knowledgeable as some of you about the value of players. Instead of ridiculing posters, why not just not post?

I think the Twins should try for Swihart. I have no idea what they'd have to give up.....Berrios is obviously not going though, so I don't think they have the exact pitcher that Boston is looking for.

In the MLBTR and other articles, I don't see Swihart garnering anything close to Berrios.

If that's truly what the Bosox are thinking, they're wrong.

I would keep Berrios myself, but I agree on the Murphy comp, I know Swihart has always been a better prospect, but I think a lot of that was buoyed by his status as a 1st round pick. Nothing offensively sticks out with Swihart that screams 'can't miss'.

After watching the outfield & upper deck walls of our beautiful new ballpark get dented and dinged by baseballs off opposing teams' bats for the last 4 years, you'd be crazy to trade any young pitching off this team. Anyone even considering trading Berrios or Duffey should be forced to sit and watch each of those games from 2012-2014. This team is in no position to be trading competent young pitching. Unless you're getting Trout or Harper straight up in return it's a total non-starter. And if that did happen, I'd turn around and trade either of them for 5 more pitchers because holy crap that's awesome.

You can't out-hit poor pitching.

Swihart is a guy I'd like the Twins to target. C has been a black hole in the organization for way too long. If the asking price is Berrios I'd back off of it. Almost any other prospect (Jay, Gonsalves, Stewart, Gordon) I'd be open to trade. There's not a lot of hope on the FA C market coming up, so if they truly want to fix the situation, it's going to have to be through a trade.

I am in same camp as Vanimal.  I think the Sox would target Berrios.  I wouldn't give him up for Swihart though.  However, the next most valuable Major League ready pitcher that has trade value in my opinion is Kyle Gibson.  I still think he is a borderline #2 starter when healthy and Swihart is not proven.  So I would be on board fro Gibson for Swihart.  I think it's fair because the Sox know what they are getting in Gibson and the Twins are potentially getting a young up and coming catcher who could become good.

To at least fix the hole at catcher for the next 3-4 years, I'd offer Plouffe to the Brewers and see what other prospects we'd have to throw in for Jonathan Lucroy.

Lucroy's another name to have on our radar. Keep this in mind though, he's got a club option next year for $5.25 million, then he'll be a free agent in 2018.. By that time he'll be 30-31. I'm not sure how much gas he'll have left in the tank to be a full-time C, and most likely he'll be pretty expensive to keep going forward.

Why would the Brewers want Plouffe? they are rebuilding, right?

I think I would have offered Berrios to Milw last July for Lucroy, at this point trading for him makes little sense. Like you said, only 1 year left on his deal after this season, which is already a lost one for the Twins
