  1. Tonight's win was exactly the kind of win one would expect from a good bullpen. Good bullpens stop the opponent from scoring runs. There are other more appropriate threads to complain about the bullpen, and valid reasons to want some fortification. When they go six scoreless innings a week after a seventeen inning game which was a week after an eighteen inning game you could at least tip your cap a little
  2. I'll feel less like we're tempting fate by discussing the DS rotation if we can steal two wins in Cleveland
  3. The Angels lost. silver linings?
  4. Every team in baseball has at least 60 wins. Nobody will finish with a record as poor as that of the 2016 Twins.
  5. Tsuyoshi Nishioka...?
  6. I had a good feeling about that pitch when I saw where Hedges set his target. Different kind of fun than last night
  7. He also threw only eighteen pitches through two innings! I doubt they use him tomorrow but we should have him for Sunday
  8. Hahaha like the end of Pinocchio
  9. OUR RUN DIFFERENTIAL IS PLUS ONE
  10. Maybe in a year or two we will be in the position that Houston is in now--a young core hitting its peak years and prospects to move for supplementary pieces. I also believe that a deep playoff run is going to be about the young players on our current roster more than anything we could add, and while this month has been awesome and I'd love to see a deep run, I wouldn't bet on it
  11. If you flip back like six pages you have all the pundits talking about how Buxton is the next Billy Hamilton
  12. If I put the over under for this year at 83.5, who will take the over?
  13. Let's hope for a win heading in to the off day and a good homestead. The last two weeks have been rough in terms of games played, if not in strength of schedule. We've been lucky enough that everyone in our weight class seems to lose on the same days we do.
  14. One hypothesis I have is that with runners on base, especially in scoring position, infields can't play the extreme shifts they can play with the bases empty so all the sharp grounders and low line drives up the middle and to pull side find holes the shift was designed to fill. I am sure there is more to it than that and if I were less lazy I'd look up Joe's career splits with RISP by year. I doubt it's as simple as the infield shift but who knows?
  15. I don't know what more you want from Hildenberger. He's been exceptional. Busenitz has been pretty good too from what I've seen. How many of the young relievers you cited are hurt?
  16. Chapter fifteen of Moby Dick is all about chowder. Too bad Melville isn't starting in Boston
  17. Bolt didn't have to make a sharp left turn every ninety feet
  18. NB that every record breakdown in the W-L ledger is lower than the Twins's overall record
  19. I like it all. It just depends on my mood and what's on hand. I will now toast Taylor Rogers though
  20. I think a libation is in order
  21. Are you a Campari drinker? I love the whiskey based Negroni variations. That might make a good barrel aged project
  22. The Sazerax was originally made with Cognac, until Phylloxera destroyed the vineyards of France and imported brandy became unavailable or uneconomical. The fine bartenders of New Orleans swapped it for Rye, and that's how you see it today, although most rye sold in the contemporary market is much closer to Bourbon than rye was before Prohibition. The more you know!
  23. I wonder if one could use the Statcast data pool (especially as it grows larger) to extrapolate data on outcomes in games played before the pompously named "Statcast Era". For the sake of argument: if, say, right handed hitters have hit eight hundred home runs a distance of 440 feet to left center field since 2008, and we have all the data on exit velocity and launch angle, could we then take that data and assign a likely value for exit velocity and launch angle to a 440 foot home run hit by a right handed hitter in the 1982 season? Prognosticating backwards is silly, I admit. Just a passing thought
  24. I much prefer Lattimore though
  25. "And the rest is rust and stardust:
