  1. "No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be; Am an attendant lord, one that will do To swell a progress, start a scene or two, Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool, Deferential, glad to be of use, Politic, cautious, and meticulous; Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse; At times, indeed, almost ridiculous— Almost, at times, the Fool. I grow old ... I grow old ... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled." TS Eliot is pertinent here
  2. Also Husker Du and the Replacements are way better than any two Seattle music acts. I am not discluding Hendrix.
  3. The Twins caught a jumbo #&$@load of breaks. Without that bevy of breaks we lose by seven or so.
  4. I don't give a this, I don't give a this, I don't give a that, I don't give a that, I may have missed a what the or some dangling expletives
  5. Mlb tv app had a hot mic on that Ausmus exchange with the home plate ump. Made Bryce Harper look pretty tame in comparison
  6. Being a good reliever now doesn't have to mean he should be a reliever. he's a good pitcher, he's probably developing, and you want to investigate, especially when we are an awful team. You get to take a look at him in a season that has less entertainment value than being trapped in quicksand.
  7. Trout is one of the two or three best players in baseball--on a team that is seven games under five hundred. We need the whole farm to be winners, not Mike Trout
  8. It looked to me like they did not dominate possession at any point except the lengthy 5 on 3, which they barely managed to take advantage of. I also live in the DC area now, and the Caps have been crammed down my throat. So maybe it is underwhelming the hype and schadenfreude that slant my perspective of the game, but the Pens looked like the better team for almost all of it
  9. Lolz It's in print in the Case of Wagner, which is not one of his major works. Had I been alive to hear it it would have meant nothing to me because I have no German.
  10. The thing is many of these ballgames have been more torturous than trying to watch the entire Ring cycle in one day would be. I remember Nietzche saying something like "I can't stand Wagner, but I can't listen to anything else any more"
  11. Peyote has never once led to a cost benefit evaluation. Read Howl. You'll get the vibes, man
  12. Maybe in June some opponent will look at the Twins and say "that rabbit's dynamite"

  14. What about Duffey? His stock must be high
  15. I am reminded of that Jon Stewart gag where he'd cue the echo effect on mic. Sunport would sound good in that context
  16. In Albuquerque (sp?) it is called the Sunport.
  17. Yeah I know the feeling. I have to suppress my gag reflex when I drinl Heineken
  18. Total systems failure is a real '80s scifi way to put it
  19. It was like watching a falcon slam into the window of a skyscraper. Or like Baudelaire's "L'albatros". The Minnesota Twins are the poets of baseball. The just don't see things like the rest of us, can't be bothered with practicality or the tedium of running, hitting, fielding. They are challenging us to redefine our notions of meaning in baseball. This is an avant garde experiment
  20. I think Dozier got over the Mendoza mark this game
