  1. The notion that learning right field will negatively affect Mr. Sano's hitting is an unconvincing assertion. At best it is an unproven assumption, at worst it is junk psychology.
  2. I'm watching the Orioles home broadcast and they ran a stat line on Mauer which said that he hit .365 when in a full count last season. Approximately .350 with RISP, .365 with the count full--and yet a .265 hitter. How queer baseball is
  3. I'm in DC Metro. I saw today that Josh Willingham is at the Nationals's camp, and Jacque Jones is their assistant hitting coach
  4. I have the audio from the MLB At Bat app, but it ain't free
  5. John, the apparatus wherein a plastic bag is filled with legal and benign vapors is known as a volcano. It may be an instance of brand metonymy, as for example rollerblades standing in for inline skates generally. Twins go 78-84. Big fan of the show.
  6. I remember that game--I was listening to the Spanish broadcast and the play by play guy was stunned. Also for those of you who understand Spanish, Tony O is the color guy for many of the games. His timbre and accent are something like what would happen if one poured cement into a slushie machine
  7. Which reminds me of this eddie rosario homer, which, when I saw it, reminded me of Vlad:
  8. Could you say a little more about changes to Buxton's mechanics? I hope it is not oracular that you included that paragraph in an article whose leader was the story of a highly regarded five tool outfield prospect who lost his swing when instructors tweaked his mechanics.
  9. Twins have the pitcher batting in the bottom of the inning. So...pitch around Buxton?
  10. Lolz I love it
  11. Somebody posted Mauer's slash line with RISP earlier in the thread (thank you; I'm much too lazy to backscroll three or four pages). I've been wondering about how the defense has to play him with runners in scoring position. A lot of the Twins Daily write ups of his decline have asserted that he is losing hits to the aggressive shifts opposing teams put on him, which explains some of the decreased production. It seems reasonable that having runners on second or third or both would take away the infield shift, but would it affect the outfield shift? Does anyone who has been able to see more games than I have have eyes on how the defense aligns with risp? Does anybody who understands how on earth to use Fangraphs have any saberoptometry that evinces something? In a word, what situations make it too risky or too impractical to shift on Mauer in infield or outfield, and how much does that affect his "clutch" production or his otherwise production? Just a thought
  12. If Plouffe were hitting like Ben Zobrist I doubt there would be much discussion about trading him
  13. Why does May as starter have more inherent value than May as reliever? That is to say why is the perceived value of starters so much greater than that of relievers (except Mariano Rivera, Matt Capps, and other bullpen gods)? I assert that pitching roles are mere convention and that most excellent relievers would have been what this forum has often projected May to be:a middle of the rotation starter. Nobody ever said on TD that I remember reading that he was a staff ace to be. It seems that we have lots of pitchers in the same class as may. Caveat: I'm a philistine
  14. Sano will surely finish the season with more home runs than Kendrys Morales will have. Don't mean much I guess, but it kinda makes me laugh
  15. The Baltimore pundits frothed at the mouth over Duffey's curve. But they also noted that Miguel Gonzales had a great start to the year but couldn't keep it up. A lot of posters wanted Berrios. Now I'm curious about Duffey. That he is unknown must have been a benefit. Does his minor league history affirm that he's good enough to start indefinitely?
