Chew on this for a moment: since Arcia was activated off the DL and then optioned to Rochester, does he now need to stay down an additional 10 days minimum, barring an injury to someone on the 25?

Not that he shouldn't stay down, but is it mandatory?

We shoulda kept Chris Parmelee and had him play DH. I mean, come on, he's batting .315 in AAA (for Baltimore).

The Michelin Man! Hey, Parmelee always hits over .300............ in AAA.

As this is a rhetorical poll, I won't participate.

Arcia has not been activated and is still on the 15 day DL doing a rehab allowed - max 20 days for non-pitchers, 30 for pitchers. He could be activated at anytime now. A player can stay on the 15 day DL indefinitely - even until the season ended. If re-injured during the rehab... he can be moved the the 60 day, the advantage being he is no longer counted on the 40 man roster or the 25 man active roster. If one stays on the 15 day indefinitely, only the active roster spot is available.

Every Twins player hits better in AAA than in MLB.  Unfortunately several TD posters have placed unwavering faith in AAA (Rochester) as a combination visit the shrine/talk to the Oracle/drink from the fountain of hitting and fielding/rite of passage.  In reality it is a punishment for failure at the ML level to give players the taste of Hades.

Arcia will be the first back and as long as Rosario and Hicks perform, he can DH. Then Vargas will get the call at some point when the Twins decide to also promote Pinto and do something with Herrmann and Nunez.

Oh, when did TC Bear get added to the 25-man roster?

On the radio broadcast they said he was activated and optioned to AAA.

@MillerStrib: Twins have activated Oswaldo Arcia from rehab assignment and optioned him to AAA Rochester.

See my question up a few posts, please.

Hunter, Mauer, Dozier, Plouffe... whoever. It's just one spot out of nine in the lineup. I would like them to mix it around. Give guys games off.

It's clear that Molitor is not a fan of players who have almost no defensive value such as Vargas and Arcia and Pinto, none of which are showing nearly enough pop in their bats to be a regular DH. All three could become that, but they aren't right now.

Edit/Addition - I think Vargas has been doing pretty well at that since he was demoted. I think that was the goal of sending him down. He wasn't providing any power. He might be close.

Seth, is Arcia obliged to stay down another 10 days since he was optioned today?

In today's age with 5 man rotations, expanded bullpens, and no increase in the amount that a team can have on the active roster, it's hard to carry one dimensional players.

Or, God forbid, the Rally Monkey?

So far Nunez has 5 votes.  We are talking about the Twins' 25man roster, not Rochester's, right?  I'd rather see the Rally Monkey, and I hate the Rally Monkey.

For the record, I voted for Pelfrey because that was the closest option I could find to "none of the above."

Neither Dozier or Plouffe are DHing, at least so far. This is a red herring.

You might as well say Harmon Killebrew.

And if they start DHing, that still leaves one of Escobar or Nunez in the lineup every day, which has the exact same effect as DHING them.

Exactly, so not a big deal.

Just saying that anyone can DH. Can always mix it up.

Uh......actually, you and chief don't agree.....he doesn't want the Eduardos in the lineup. Your plan keeps them in the lineup. Nearly every day, even though they can't hit at all. Not a lick.

"It's just the 25th man on the roster" has now been upgraded to "it's just one spot in the lineup"?

"if everyone else does his job, it doesn't matter if he does".......

I'm just saying that Dozier can get an occasional DH day and not be in the field. Escobar can play 2B with Dozier DHing and the lineup is the same.

Also, guys get days off, and it's important for bench players to get at bats in case they are needed at various times in the season.

It is not important for bench players to play every day, which is what this plan does......
