I didn’t see Jackson as a reason we lost a game. That’s my personal opinion. Now we have carried worse players including Gray who is in AAA.

That is because you don't want to see the lack of roster options due to his being on the roster left Shelty with no options at the end of more than a few games.

I personally think we have still done screwy things with our bench.

Nobody saw Jackson.  He never took the field.  🙂

I saw him pinch run for Bell and score the winning run. Jokes aside his spot is as a backup. We are running with Caratini and Jeffers the rest of the way. Better hope neither gets injured. I Hope Please GIF

It's only sporting.   The roster rules are there to keep juggernauts like the Twins from hogging up all the good players.

Looks like Roden may be the new Jackson given how the bench was utilized today.....

Not putting Roden in for Martin was a real head scratcher. When the trade was made last year, it was said he had plus defense iirc.  So why not put him in there at that point.  It is almost like they think there is a prize for the most position changes made in a season.

With Jackson passing through waivers it shows a couple things.   1.  Catchers is the one position where familiarity with the pitching staff is paramount unless in a dire need.  2. Jackson is more valuable to the Twins than any/most other teams.  3.  The Twins value Jackson more than other teams.

2 and 3 seem similar but the second point is the lack of depth at the high levels in catching that can play catcher at the MLB level.  The last point is I do think the Twins like and see some potential in Jackson.  Maybe they just like him as a human.  Not much different than the Dodgers with Rortvedt.

Another classic case of over valuing our own players. I was told there it was a near 100% certainty Jackson was going to get claimed...

Its all a timing issue.  The Yankees have been getting better production from their catching position and as of now the Dodgers seem ok with their catchers but they also need a spark.    Either case I am glad he passed through.  He wouldn't have around the trade deadline.

When Martin got hurt the radio announcers speculated that Roden might be dealing with an undisclosed physical issue temporarily.  Something annoying enough to keep him off the field but not serious enough to disclose.  It’s a fair guess,, but an unsubstantiated one for now.  By the way, we trust Kriedler to play center but he can’t come off the bench and play left?  Moving Clemens seems unnecessary to me.

Anyway, thankfully we got to hang on to Jackson.

This is interesting. Roden has looked weak in the outfield and that may explain his work and why he wasn't used yesterday.

Any word on an IL stint for Martin? Agree with you on Jackson. He's the #2 catcher next year assuming Jeffers is gone. I hope he and Caratini can hold down the fort until Olivar, Lackey, and/or Tait is ready. They ain't much else out there to get.

If they are keeping Caratini, they need a stronger second catcher.  Caratini should not be the main catcher but that seems the direction are going.  Jackson should only play 30 games or so but with Caratini it will be closer to 70 games needing to be covered.

possibly Jeffers is gone but we don't know that for sure. but until we do Jackson needed to stick around the guys hitting very well give him a chance to play. He's not too bad of a catcher either. we don't have anyone from all this catching information that I read that's ready to be on a major league team next year. so it would be caratini and Jackson and if Jackson played half the time the result might be surprisingly good.

He has been what we needed, and getting through waivers was a mild shock.

That's a tough one because you may be right, and I think you probably are, but there isn't anyone out there to get. The best projected FA this offseason after Jeffers is Tyler Stephenson.  He's good, hitting .251/.333/.425 with a 1.8 WAR so far this year, and an average defensive catcher. Sporttrac says his "value" next year is $7.5m. I'm guessing the market will value him at 2 years, roughly $20-25M or, since he just turned 30 yesterday, 3 or 4 years at an AAV of $10-15M. I don't think we're in on him at that price with Caratini's contract. After him, the quality falls off sharply to 36 year old Kyle Higashioka, 32 year old Carson Kelly, 34 year old Austin Hedges, and downhill from there. I'm glad we kept Jackson because I honestly think he's as good as any option presently scheduled to be available other than Stephenson and maybe Kelly.

Day later he's back on the mlb roster lol twins love rostering a player who gets 1 start every 10 days effectively a waste of a roster spot . Been from outman to gray and now jackson who I actually think should be the backup catcher over caratini but he's making to much to just sit on the bench in hindsight probably should of used that money on pitching last off-season

Even I do not get this…

Seriously - what the heck are we doing?   The 2 transactions are beyond idiotic combined.   If you were trying to get him down to the minors to then protect,  we have an outfield need and you have 3-4 players you could utilize.   Are we suddenly going completely conservative on calling up rookies after calling up Culpepper?   The direction of this front office is mind boggling.

The only thing that comes to my mind is that Caratini can play 1st again.

Go, Twins.

Great so then you can play two guys out of position.

Or Caratini/Jeffers are dinged up as well.  That is the only logical thing - otherwise we likely are not seeing any other rookies this year unless we make a run at the end of the season.

For me it had more to do with the lack of quality of backup catchers around the league rather than over-valuing Jackson because he's a Twin.

I will disagree with that assessment but ultimately we don't know.  At that time you had no less than 6 teams with a dire need of catcher.
