We're really going with the theory the Twins traded Duran because he was due ~$8M next year?

I'm down on this franchise but even I don't think they're THAT cheap. They paid Harrison Bader almost that. Vazquez MORE than that. Its only about $3M over MLB average salary. Well within ANY reasonable 2026 budget.

Geez.

Yeah that belief feels like a way to cope with an underwhelming return more than anything.

Agreed. He was traded because the FO thinks Abel is an MLB caliber SP. Now we’ll see if their gamble is correct. In theory you trade a RP for a SP 10 times out of 10.

The combined defensive IQ will more than make up for any lack of fielding experience.

All the throws will be right on target 🙅

I 100% believe money was an issue, but I agree with this part.

I don’t think the return was great. I’m not as worried about peripherals. But yeah, they didn’t want to pay him. Still, I think it was a poor trade overall

Say what you will,  Levine on MLB Network said it was a pretty significant overpay this morning.    We get emotionally attached to a lot of these players.  I don't think there is many trades that could have occurred that many would have felt we were getting a fair or good deal for Duran, or if we trade Ryan or Jax.

Falvey & sons do not pay for bullpen arms.

Levine isn't exactly an unbiased observer on this one, given his long history working with Falvey..

I do agree that we get emotionally attached to some players, and Duran is likely one of them for many of us.  There aren't many players on the roster that I go out of my way to pay extra attention to, but when Duran was in the game it was must see TV.

Fix-it project.  Was pretty good two years ago.  Likely the starting LF for the duration of the year.

I get Stewart but will never understand Duran

I would have preferred to keep him, but I've got to imagine part of it is that they've already had incredible luck with him throwing 1,000,000 mph fastballs for the past few years without blowing out his elbow, and how long can they really expect that to keep up?

That .124 avg threatens Keirsey

This FO loves their high risk low reward projects.

He'll fit right into the batting order....

Would they be able to bring back someone like a Bryce Mayer in a trade for Correa?  Is that too low or too high?

Probably directly related to how much $ the Twins kick in. You’re probably not getting a Top 100 guy, but Walked Janek (strong defensive catcher at high A) and Anderson Brito (A+ at age 21) is probably a high octane back of the bullpen arm would be a nice start if they have to pay $30MM to $45MM on his salary.

The Twins are receiving OF James Outman for Brock Stewart. It’s a one-for-one deal.

Outman, 28, is hitting .289 with 20 HR and 74 RBI in a hitter-friendly AAA league.

Between him and Kiersey  == who is Worse ,  ??  might be a tie , makes zero sense

Don’t hate it honestly. For the crowd that wants immediate help, here ya go.

That ship sailed when they traded Duran.

That .150 batting average aught to fit right in with this team.  He has good speed, but with a pretty solid 35% k rate this doesn't seem that great to me.  I think I would rather have Stewart back.

by help you mean, about like Kiersey?

Why would you deal anyone for this guy? Mind. Boggling.

Negative fwar last year and this year.

What is even the point of this deal?

I am truly confused on this one.

Maybe there’s something to tap into. 3 WAR player in 2023 when he was a full time starter for LA. Idk. Just grasping for straws.

He’s at minimum Buxton insurance so we don’t have to scrap heap this winter for another Michael A Taylor type.

I can tell you right now that Rocco Baldelli is going to love this deal. Another team's 28-year-old? He's going to play every day even if it comes at the expense of at bats for Wallner.
