I hope that this dumpster fire of a sale didn't scare off negotiations on a sale of the team.   If you include lost revenues and goodwill, the Pohlads may have cost themselves $50-200M in value.  All that to save no more than $20M in payroll.  Now if they can manage to get Correa back to the Astros somehow, that would actually save some real coin and give an upcoming ownership group some flexibility.

I can't imagine for 1 minute this reduces the value of the team in a sale.

It would be great if the player we get back for Stewart is named Dinty Moore.

Falvey got the knockoff version Dainty Poore

You're right.  I'm still in the wish category that some of these decisions could have been saved for when the new ownership was fully in charge.

Bednar going to Yankees.  Jax is far and away the best relief pitcher left.   Will someone pay up,  will the Twins sell low,  or will they keep him?

With the market this hot on relievers I think we gotta go all in and trade Jax. If we can get Harry Ford from Seattle and more I’m in.

Goodwill only shows up on the revenue sheet under Donations

Right, if anything, reducing expenses will help.

But if we're talking about a 1B+ sale, it better not help, or we'll still have ownership issues.

They took a lesser catcher from the Phillies, don't you think if they could have gotten Ford, that's where Duran would be right now?

While I agree with you, I think it would be hilarious if they got another catching prospect.  Other teams can't have catchers if the Twins have all the catching prospects.

I would hope so!

It could be, but the fact that none of them can consistently contribute is bucking the odds. By sheer luck some of them should have turned out to be consistently above average MLB players, just like we used to see.

But in the past, we used to see these guys play every day, stay in for 9 innings and fail before learning to succeed. Now they get pulled for Manny Margot, Christian Vazquez and Josh Bridie in game-time situations the past generations of players used to have to learn to thrive in.

Sure, they absolutely could've derailed a short career here or there. I guess we'll never know. I think the talent level of this organization is often overstated so I skew towards blaming what's happening before they reach the majors.

Possibly. Yesterday’s prices aren’t today’s prices and Seattle might be feeling the pressure to go all in themselves.

Rafael Flores to Pirates.

Something to monitor,  the other player Houston wanted in the Correa trade was Castro.   My guess is the trade is dead but could be a reason why we have not had a Castro deal yet.

Also if we thought the Castro deal was big,  the trade calculator has Ryans value at almost 3 times the value of Duran.  Would have to be a massive trade if someone does it.

If that's the case, Falvey needs to turn off his phone and let his replacement figure out what to do about any more controllable players, because that means Dave Dombrowski completely took advantage of him.

Just saw Mendez is rule 5 eligible this year, so he'll need to be added to the 40 man, Like the deal slightly less now.

I don't think we are going to have an issue with 40 man spots.  Heck we are getting rid of 5-7 right now,  might as well as put him on there already.

Depends on what the offer was.  I truly think the Twins think a lot more of Abel than most do here and valued that package better than anything else being offered.  You would wonder why Seattle would be offering Ford now or a better offer for Jax.  I will say Seattle and the Twins front office have a very similar opinion on hitters and pitchers (Seattle has done it better),  they may see a lot to work with in Jax and could like him better than even Duran.

I will say if we got Ford,  our Catcher depth would have magically improved and would be at all levels.  All things considered if thats what we end up with I think we would all be pretty happy.

Guys within the org + FAs will have to be added this offseason as well.

How can we be a world series team when all we do is get rid of the players doing well for ****ing prospects that usually never work out

This is how every team does it, to one degree or another. When the team's bad, you trade away players who are good now but will be gone in the next season or two for a larger number of prospects who might be good later. Lots of prospects don't work out, but every good player was once a prospect, and the more quality prospects you can get, the better your odds of having enough of them pan out to build a good team. Sure, some teams spend more money on free agents in addition to developing prospects, but there are plenty of world series winners who built their teams by hoarding prospects in a sell-off a few years earlier.
