Saw this earlier but didn’t click through. Wish I hadn’t clicked now. Most are the very back end of the 100. My guess is one of the 5 turns out to be an average regular or number 4 starter. Most will use up options and service time on the early career performance roller coaster. If in time they become consistently useful it will be time to trade them for other FV 50s.

Any trade which involves Joe Ryan being dealt and doesn't include at least one top prospect plus coming back just isn't realistic IMO.  He is a top 10-15 pitcher in baseball, he's 29 and under control for 2 more years.  It should take an almost unreasonable haul to pry him away, as it should.  Adding in Jax and Duran and not being able to secure a top 50 prospect would be insane.  A couple of those guys coming back have potential, but the Twins have more than enough leverage to bring back a good deal more if they chose to deal them all.  At least in my opinion.

Said this elsewhere - this is what we expect from Boston, NY, and big market fans. Of course Red Sox fans believe their team should acquire Joe Ryan, Jhoan Duran, and Griffin Jax for prospects. Why not all at once for minor leaguers with promise who are unlikely to ever beat out any of the current Boston rookies/second year players. From an East Coast view this deal looks great.

NO.

Trade Ryan only for some gents that can be a starters, today.

How many Zebby and Festa types is Ryan worth? Serious question, not sarcasm.

Do not know , but trading for unknown wannabe rookies is pathetically stupid.

Twins rookies have been a flop for the most part the past 4 years. Wishful thinking does not create success.

For Ryan, Duran and Jax? Gonna take 3 of Anthony, Mayer, Duran and Campbell. Far too much quality given for those mentioned.

Where are people getting that there aren't top prospects in this deal?  I'm not saying I'd take it, but Keith Law has Franklin Arias as the 9th best prospect in all of baseball.  Garcia is at 46.  Tolle is putting up impressive numbers in AA and rated their third best prospect by MLB.

Abel and Escobar are in the top five of the Philly system as well.

Now....do I take this deal?  I'm not high on it since the best player is the furthest away.  Do I like that three of the five are in AA or AAA?  Yeah.  But like Brock said earlier....this starts with Marcelo Mayer or it doesn't get off the ground.

Not for Duran and Jax AND Ryan.

I was reading some comments from Red Sox fans on a different proposal involving Ryan.  This was a Joe Ryan for Jarren Duran trade that involved some other prospects.  Some fans vigorously disagreed with the proposal saying Joe Ryan is an average #3 starter at best while Duran is one of the best OF in the game.  They continued to state that Joe Ryan is inflating his value this year and will regress back to normal next year.  A few came to point out that Ryan has been pitching this way for a few years and this is not an aberration.  A few others pointed out that Duran's value is also inflated after his year last year.

I agree with your statements on what the Twins should get in return should they trade Ryan/Jax/Duran.

If the consensus is that Jax and Duran each bring back 2 Top 100 prospects and the price for Ryan is higher, this deal is a hard NO, especially since the only other MLB player coming from Boston or Philadelphia is going to Philadelphia (yes I know Abel has 6 MLB starts but is currently in AAA). As stated by several posters, higher rated prospects need to be involved.

East Coast bias towards fly-over states is horrible; they think we should just give them our toys...

That's the Twins asking price, I don't think it's the general consensus. I think asking for two top-100 prospects for any reliever is not going to get any bites.

Well, maybe you can get two 80+ guys, but not the top half of the top 100.

Looking back through transaction logs, there are few, if any examples, of deadline deals of high leverage relievers with 2.5 years of control being traded, no history to see what the market will bear.

Same with Ryan. Closest example would be Berrios, he brought MLB #22 and MLB #86, but he only had 1.5 years of control. Berrios was also 27 whereas Ryan is 29...

Even if Tanner Scott netted 3 of the Padres top 5 prospect, one of those prospects was #44 overall, and he was purely a rental.   Both Jax and Duran have 2 years of team control beyond this year, so that is a big bargaining chip on top of their status as relievers.

I am not arguing with you, I am trying to understand why you don't think we get that.  I do understand, it's a big price and I do understand that relievers can be volatile, but historical transactions (i.e, Scott transaction) show it may not be out of the realm of possibility.

Almost no one thinks the Twins can get two top 100 prospects for either RP. But I agree I don't like any of these deals for Ryan.

I think there's decreasing returns with control over 1.5 years.

If the Twins trade either reliever, I think they'll get some really nice pieces. I don't think it will be two top 100 guys, with one of them in the top 50.
