I like the idea of the bullpen getting a rest day.

But why not move this game to Thursday?

So the only question for tonight, is who will they call up for the Extra Guy tomorrow?

Indeed.  It seems an obvious solution, but Lee has yet to play an inning at 2b for the Twins, which is where so many of us had him penciled in.  Perhaps there is a reluctance to ask him to play too many defensive positions this early in his MLB career.  He has certainly been great at the plate, but I don't really recall Lee being tested yet by a difficult defensive play.

Lee has made several very good plays on bunts or squiblers on the 3rd base line.  They were bare handed grabs with strong off balanced accurate throws.

Much like Brock Stewart and Justin Topa, I'll believe the Twins are playing Lee at second base when he actually does it. Stewart and Topa may be rehabbing, but until either or both of them take the mound and throw a pitch for the Twins, I won't count on any contribution from either player.

I'd be willing to bet that Farmer would play second if Willi started this game in center field.

I also would not play Lee at 2nd right now. The kid gloves are in disuse right now what with Lewis on the IL again. How's about we use them with Lee.

Yep, would make sense. Old friend Castillo?

Yes to a reliever. Or at least to someone they can use in relief. Ober and Lopez start the two games. It won't be Boushley, who is pitching tonight.

I suppose there's a slight chance it could be Camargo, if they are concerned about Jeffers foot and the possibility of Vazquez needing to go 18 innings.

Keep in mind that so far this season, Cleveland’s record v the ChiSox is 5-5. And yet they still lead the division.

One can only imagine the angst present on Guardians Daily. "How can we be legitimate if we are only 5-5 against the dregs of the division?"

Meanwhile, looking at the weather radar (as the remnants of Beryl cut through the southern Great Lakes), I don't see how anyone is going to play baseball in Chicago this evening. Of course, on the radar picture Detroit looks like it's getting drenched as well... and yet they're playing, and on the telecast it doesn't even look like it's raining. So 🤷‍♂️

Yankees, Dodgers and Orioles all lost. Tigers lose in 10.
Twins are 2 games behind the Yankees for the top wild card. 1 game back in the loss column.

Yankees are 6-16 since June 14th when they went to Fenway.

I would guess Festa.  I'd like to see him get a go against the Chisux.

They don't need a starter. With the All-Star break starting on Sunday, it only gives Ober an additional day off.

Their waiting to get fat off Minnesota ... Oh, wait.

It also eliminates the possibility of using Ober on Sunday if they wanted to use him instead of Paddack, which they could have done with the Thursday off day.

Sox called up LHP Eder, still no announcement by Twins

I'd be ok with starting off the second half with Ober.

He just makes it look easy.

I wonder what kind of low-A/rookie level lottery ticket + cash considerations it would take for Pittsburgh to flip us MAT for Margot.  Obviously, they will keep maintenancing Buxton, and that's OK.  But the defensive drop-off from Buck to Margot (or even Castro) is pretty steep.  MAT isn't hitting, but he could pretty much just be a Buxton-day-off-filler and late inning defensive replacement.  Who knows, but maybe MAT would see an uptick in offense being back with his crew from last year.

I'm still shocked at how bad Margot's been in the outfield - there's been times where he doesn't look like a professional baseball player out there.

Agree, he is in the Josh Willingham/Delmon Young area of defense.  I can't help but think Falvey getting him 'on sale' lead to the decision of Margot over Taylor. Also, I think there are salary restrictions against a team resigning a player for less of a salary or cut in pay so Taylor would not have been able to sign with the Twins for the 4 million he is receiving in Pittsburgh.

It's not new.  He was a good outfielder for years but the drop off showed up in the stats already least year.

I didn't paste all of his early years when he was very good.  Look at the very bad rtot and rdrs numbers the last two years, yet he still has positive #s for his career totals.  The FO must have thought 2023 was an aberration... but it wasn't.  He appears to be in steep decline mode, at least on defense.
