mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Twins moved Lewis to the Saints roster, Alot quicker than most of us would of guessed, For the teams sake i hope Miranda can turn things around, But its not gonna be as a full time 3b i can only see Miranda back in Mpls as a 3b and 1b backup for Left handed pitching, and who knows ? if the D.H. position changes, Be interesting to see how the Saints use them both , we will all be watching , And wishing Royce Lewis the best, Kid deserves better,
tony&rodney Verified Member Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Same as it ever was .... a player needs to earn a job and then do well enough to keep it. Baseball is an ultra competitive business and tough. Whoever shows the skills and performance to get advanced a level, will.
gman Verified Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Lewis 3B and CF. Miranda at 1B and 3B. Unless the Twins decide Buxton can play center. Maybe Lewis get some games at SS.
Jocko87 Verified Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Interesting that Wichita was coming home and St Paul is heading out on the road schedule wise. That would indicate to me we are looking at level of competition rather than level of health. This may happen sooner than we think.
rwilfong86 Verified Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I was hoping to see him play on Saturday night in Wichita. Oh well.

He is on the 60-day IL and can't be activated until June 1. When he completes his rehab, he has to be added to the 40-man roster. If there was thought that he definitely wasn't going to be ready, there was no reason start him on his rehab.
tarheeltwinsfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 All of Twins Nation is pulling for Royce Lewis to be healthy.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I read that a factor in Lewis starting the rehab with Wichita is that they were in Frisco, near his offseason home. If that was indeed the case and if that choice was made as a kindness to Lewis, I think that again speaks well of the front office's commitment to treating players with dignity, which seems to be a common thread I see in them.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Lewis said months ago that he was going to Wichita to start due to the more predictably warmer weather. The upper Midwest seems to be reliably warm now after a prolonged cold spring.

FlyingFinn Verified Member Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Lewis 3 for 4 with 4 rbi's and a SB so far tonight in St. Paul, including a HR.

They need to add a hill so it's impossible for CFs to get to the wall with speed lol

And do what with them? Someone has to play there, and as a key defensive position, I’d rather have a really good defender there. Buxton has lost so much value not playing in the field, and even more with the way he’s hitting. At this point I’d rather play Bux out there and just let the chips fall where they may, because forcing him to be the everyday DH isn’t working and just can’t be the answer with guys like Julien and Miranda in the wings. Besides, it’s not running into walls that has put Bux on the IL. As for Lewis, getting him into the lineup will be key. If that’s in the OF/CF, so be it. I’m good with that.

Not sure how you can say it's not working. Buxton leads the team in games played and has already accumulated 1 WAR just from DHing by hitting at 25 percent above the league average. Miranda and Julien were both below league average hitters this year, even worse than Taylor.
August J Gloop Verified Member Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 June 1: Lewis up, Gordon out. Lewis 3B, Correa SS, Polo 2B. Kiriloff 1B. Farmer plays each spot 4,5,6 once a week to program in rest and keep Farmer sharp. Donny Barrels starts at 1st against the toughest lefties and Castro keeps providing his defense fueled positive WAR contributions. When (hopefully not if) Miranda starts hitting again, he can take over the Solano role, mashin lefties at 1B. I could see Castro getting optioned since he has one to keep Gordon, but they're trending in opposite directions and now could be a good time to sneak Gordon through waivers. As to the future? Brooks Lee should be working on his Pivot at 2B. I assume that Polanco if healthy will be with the team through '25 as he's eminently affordable and we all know how good he is when right. Trouble is that knees love to become ongoing issues, so there will be stretches. Lee has the better defensive profile, but Julien is way ahead of him offensively right now. There's a lot of time for that to change, so it will be interesting how that plays out next year.
