I hope that NYY, LAD and Hou all lose their postseason series.

You don't need to watch much postseason baseball to understand how much better these bullpens are than what the Twins have.

Philly knocked the Braves out..wow didn't see that coming..My picks are still in.  Cleveland and Padres. Padres win in game 7. Cleveland brakes curses and including brides maids..With another rain delay.(mother nature loves baseball)..Starting to wish I had put a $20 on this crazy guess in Vegas in the spring.

That being said even with our 18 losses in a row. If you win the last game of the season..who will remember the ones before that?

Here’s the thing, make all the hurry up rules you want, pitch clocks, ghost runners in extras, whatever it is that you think makes the game “better”. But it’s still a baseball game, it could last forever.

If you are watching the LA-SD game, that is how you manufacture a run. Check your ego. A BB, a bunt and an error, a HBP and a SF: BOOM, insurance run and new pitcher into the game.

As much as I hate the dodgers, Mets, Yankees, and Astros I really would rather watch the best teams in the world series than a pair of 89 win teams.

 

But this was expected with the addition of yet more playoff teams.

 

Congratulations to the Phillies and padres... And hopefully Guardians.

Interesting take. The Phillies were by far the best team against the Braves. And the Padres proved better against the Dodgers and the Mets. Given every advantage your so-called best teams just can’t do it. I love this new format, it’s more than fair for the teams with the best records. Go Guardians!

The only major sport where the playoffs make actual sense is the NFL since each team plays less than half of the other teams in the league and there are so few games. Don’t get me wrong I love the MLB playoffs, but you play 162 games over 6 months. The dodgers proved themselves a better team than the padres yet they’re going home. Same with the braves and Phillies. It’s a total crapshoot. You win 111 games out of 162, you’re the best. Best of 3s and best of 5s, while entertaining, aren’t a true test of who’s better IMO

I'll make an adjustment to your comment. The Mets, the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, the Cardinals, and the Atlantas proved themselves to be better regular season teams than their opponents, but they did not prove themselves to be better postseason teams. It's been said many times that the MLB regular season is a marathon. But the postseason is more of a sprint. A team that wins the World Series has to be a team that is capable of doing well both in a marathon and in a sprint. That means the players (especially the pitchers) have to be ready and able to do both, and it also means the manager may have to run the games differently in the postseason than in the regular season.

If you believe the regular season record determines the best team that's a legitimate point of view, but if that's the case I'd suggest a regular season where each team plays each other team 6 times (3 home and 3 away). 174 games. Whichever team finishes first is the World Champion. The end; no postseason.

I can see that point. To me, the baseball playoffs are like if you ran a marathon, finished first and then decided the champion by running a 40 yard dash immediately after. Too many things can happen in a best of 5 series that determine winners.

I know this topic has been discussed somewhere on these forums in the past, but the issue is finding the best balance between the regular season and the postseason. How many regular season games should there be? How many postseason teams should there be? How should teams qualify for the postseason? How many postseason games should there be? How many days should the postseason last? I expect that those who make these decisions base their decisions primarily on maximizing profit, and that may not necessarily result in the best team becoming champion.
