Ryan has pinpoint control today and has maintained his stuff, both with his fastball and breaking pitches. I never get any emotional distress from Twins baseball. never. I was a fan through the 70s and many other stretches of ineptitude. I’m watching, too, and have been a fan for as long. Not saying he should have been pulled, but watching on TV I don’t think is quite the same to have that certain of knowledge. Apologies if I misread your post, it just seemed more reactionary, as is typical from we fans

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 And the outfielders did the jump shot thing … who said they didn’t do that anymore? Maybe that was a different thread. Good win. Hardly matters anymore, but I still like seeing the wins

Wasn't sure how many he had this year but if that's correct, he has 1 more this season then the Twins the last 4 seasons. It's probably not a fair comparison but show the difference in pitching philosophies.

He is 1-0 3.0 ERA 6 innings per start and a K an inning. Not bad, hope he builds on that today. Super-duper encouraged to see Joe’s last two starts, late in the season, pitched the most innings he’s ever pitched. Great to see him shake the doldrums and end the season strong and competitive!

LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Great outing by Ryan, all the rhetoric about him needing to grow up after his last start……. that was a crock….. he’s a true professional
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 There you have it. Joe Ryan's last two starts reveal definite "Ace" potential, and that's against a very good hitting Cleveland team. If and when he gets a little better command of his slider, he'll be shutting teams down on a regular basis. Here's a question to mull over the winter: Having seen how good a closer / setup man Jhoan Duran is, would you indulge his preference to be a starter in 2023? Obviously he's a great closer, but if the young man can get similar results over 5 innings as a starter, isn't that more valuable? Imagine a young Roger Clemens as a closer. He would have been great, too. But what a waste!

insagt1 Verified Member Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Yesterday was the most un-fun day of baseball of the season for me. Today with the pressure totally off, Twins at least got a little dignity back by not allowing Cleveland to sweep. I had said earlier though that today's start for Ryan may not end up being 'meaningful' as far as playoffs go...and I was correct about that. (yeah, I would have let him go for the no-hitter--but lets not start up that debate again..he looked good today and Twins finally won) Arraez finally got a clutch hit. But man oh man, is the Twins lineup ever weak, weak, weak. Injuries have really ripped them apart. You can only miss a small number of key players at one time. The guys filling in ...none of them are ready for prime time and offensively Celestino isn't either. I wanted buck to get 30 dingers this year, but now they should probably shut him down. I'd like Arraez to win the batting title. It is still a very meaningful accomplisment in the eyes of a lot of baseball fans. AS it should be. I hope the Twins finish above .500. Last nights 2nd game is still a real punch to the gut. But when you see that the bottom 5 spots in the lineup got exactly 1 hit, you knew a win was not in the cards. Props to the comeback though.
