sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 "Monday is World Turtle Day" quoth the the voice over the radio the other night. Thought 1: Is that every Monday? Or just today? Thought 2: Is it Just for World Turtles? The only one i know of is the Great A'Tuin, and tickle me pink if i can't start a discworld flavored game thread. Thought 3: What other turtles deserve to be mentioned? The laserdisc turtle. The one at the beginning of El Mariachi. Those of the Teenage Mutant variety. Mr. T in the dialogues of GEB. Yertle the Turtle Filbert from Rocco's Modern Life (note for future potential silly game thread intros) and more... Thought 4: What ever became of Willians Astudillo? He may be gone from our line up, but his spirit of play lives on with the Twins! Thought 5: What does any of this have to do with tonight's game? Tha'ts easy! It's a game thread. Read on to find out. Turtles of Detroit: 0. Elvin Rodriguez (R) P 1. Robbie Grossman (S) RF 2. Jonathan Schoop (R) 2B 3. Miguel Cabrera (R) DH 4. Javier Baez (R) SS 5. Harold Castro (L) 3B 6. Willi Castro (S) LF 7. Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Go Twins! Hope Archer has the endurance to go 5 innings this game and continue to do so.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I like the lineup, save for I'd rather have Celestino in LF.
CRF Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Brings back memories...my son always loved those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Astudillo. I might be wrong on that last one.

He was always one of the Turtles and I was always "Shredder". Got my clock cleaned many a time. Still got those Turtle toys around here someplace. Could never bring myself to toss 'em in the trash. Saving them for a grandson, or maybe a great-grandson.

Mill1634 Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Twins have to win this game even with Archer on the mound, which isn't something that I would usually say. Elvin has been bad in the majors and minors. Twins 7, Detroit 4 PTC: Buxton
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 If Buxton can only play 2 out of every 3 days, I would prefer we move him to LF for 2 days, let Celestino play CF, and then DH Buxton on the third day, what with the reduction in stress from not having to play CF anymore.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Archer has been watching Cueto, huh?

Read the thread wrong
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Here's something I didn't know--Max Kepler has (very quietly) accumulated 1.2 WAR this year, putting him on pace for a nearly 5 WAR season. He also has almost an identical wRC+ to Juan Soto. Given that the Twins will only pay Max $6.75M for the year, that is fantastic value.
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Archer looked like he'd been shot, even though the ball missed him by a foot.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I am concerned with the amount of loud contact Archer is giving up...

Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Also, I'm going to take credit for that Max Power Grand Salami, since I was talking him up earlier in the thread.
Drunk_Goose Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Just solidifying his place as my favorite player?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Kepler has 6 homers this year. 4 are against the Tigers.
