Is Kirilloff going to get called up?

Cave should only be out there as a defensive replacement - don't want to see him bat.   He has been trending down since his first year with the Twins.  Below are a list of Twins players with ridiculous strike out percentages per Plate Appearances so far - AL average is 24%

Rooker 50%

Jeffers 47%

Garver 41%

Cave 38%

Sano 34%

I checked and Broxton in his career has struck out in 39% of his plate appearances so he may not be any better than Cave plus he is not on the 40-man roster.  So bring Kiriloff up, send Rooker down and hope Buxton can play everyday until Kepler is back.   The Catchers need to make some contact as well.

I don’t care if Kirilloff hits .100, he needs to get in the lineup and stay there. Against lefties, too.

I am so tired with the automatic outs that are in the lineup every day. As a #1 draft choice and a very successful minor league hitter, AK is going to hit!

Whether because of bad luck, injuries,  or poor roster construction, this team includes several players, both hitting and pitching, that would not be on another major league roster. Embarrassing!

I agree with your thesis of "let's call up Alex," but I don't think the covid list is forced 10-day IL stay. It has to do with consecutive days testing negative, right?

I would think so if it’s a close contact case vs. the one having Covid. The transactions page said both were placed on 10 day IL so

Considering they used Kirilloff in a strictly platoon situation during the early doubleheader, I don't get the impression they think he's ready for primetime.

A tiny bit, in the same sense that I can play Hamlet a tiny bit? :)

To be a center fielder or not to be, that is the question

As opposed to Jake Cave?

Considering it was one day, and they knew they were returning him to the minors immediately after, I'm not sure if we can read too much into it. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he was eased back into regular play with some platoon rest now too.

If there isn’t a roster move calling up Kirilloff and sending Cave to AAA on Friday or Saturday I’m going to be upset.

Update: I am happy today.

I think Alex will be fine. But, so far, this comment isn't aging well. :)

Baseball Reference says that the Twins will get an additional year of control even if Kirilloff stays on the major league roster from this point on.

I don't think Alex has shown that the Twins did some disservice by keeping him down. He's only had significant game action in 2 out of the last 4 years. Injuries, COVID, and underperformance of everyone on the MLB roster means he has an opportunity now but if he doesn't turn it around he'll likely be back in St. Paul in a week to keep working on things. He'll be fine eventually but right now he's a struggling rookie on a struggling team that needs stability and wins.

Alex will go back to St. Paul if and when Sano returns. I am glad that he is getting regular play. When a player goes down for an injury, this is what should happen with prospects on the cusp. They get a taste of the majors and know what to work on when they go back to AAA ball. Sano will push him back, just because. And when Gar and Kep return, I hope they play Alex at first base.

But, again, if the Twins are just going to be a so-so team, then they have to rethink who is on the roster across the board, especially as AAA ball gets underway and we see some live work from Duran and Bala.

Too bad Royce Lewis is losing a year in the picture.

And, maybe Jeffers needs a bit more time at the minor league site before making the year-long plunge to the majors.

I'm not sure that Kirilloff will be sent down when Sano returns. I don't see any point to keeping Rooker on the squad and Lin will be sent down when either Kepler or Garlick return from the COVID IL. Any of Garlick, Jeffers or Astudillo could be sent down as the third position player removed for those coming of the IL. Also, injuries could pop up and someone else could go on the IL.

I'd like to see AK get another week in the majors, especially since the minor league games won't start during that interval.

Yeah, it's April and the team is already desperate. AK has been hitting the ball hard, I think they'll ride with him.

The team being desperate should have nothing to do with AK being up....he should be in MN this year, due to talent and skills.

Well the motive may not be what people wanted, but if the end result is the same, I'll still enjoy watching him play.
