Fun with Numbers 2021

I tried out a new doctor closer to my new home. He said I no longer needed to take my stomach medication. It took 1.5 days for him to be proven wrong. He is no longer my doctor.

Surely they will raise their numbers as the year goes along, but currently the 2021 Detroit Tigers are batting a collective .195.

The last time a major league team had a batting average below .200 for an entire season? 1884, when 3 clubs "achieved" the feat in the questionable Union Association.

The season by 10s:

5-5

2-8

4-6

So in football parlance, they are 0-2-1. They really need to get a win or two under their belts. Still a lot of season left to right the ship, but this start is putting them in a decent-sized hole.

The Twins have played 82 games. They have scored first in 47 of those games, or 57% of their total games.

The Twins are 23-24 in games in which they score first.

Typically, the team that scores first wins 65-70% of the time.

As of today, Miguel Sano has 15 home runs - behind only Nelly at 18. He also has -.3fWAR.  If Nelly gets traded, it's possible for Sano to hit 4+ home runs and keep his fWAR negative. Can he finish at the team home run leader while being below replacement level?

There are currently 5 players (min 250 PA) with at least as many walks as strikeouts. Arraez is just shy. He's 24 walks to 27 strikeouts. Can he cross that threshhold by the end of the year?

Amazing. 2021 Twins baseball

All the more reason to change how errors are scored.

Or in this case, how they're not scored.

August 2nd and we are 44-62.

We can still win 100 games!

And if most of them are 1 run wins, we can still coast in with fewer runs scored than our opponents.

Oh, and i had to search to find this thread. There is another one in other baseball, but it is for 2021 season, not just 2021, so i'm not surprised this one is more fun.

The first sentence had me worried, but a fifty-six game winning streak would indeed be fun.

I think i could accept running the other streak to 0-19 this year if Berrios gets the win.... but it would be tough.

I'll give you a fun one here.

The Twins are 5-0 when I am in attendance.

SP's were Happ (3), Berrios, and Ober. A miracle to have not seen a loss.

Hmm, maybe we should fix the pitching staff?

Yeah, I'm too lazy to actually look it up, but I'd imagine the real takeaway here is the fact the Twins have given up 6 or more runs in ~45% of their games so far.

That's ... awful.

I don't know if I've posted this "fun with numbers" before but in case I haven't, it's something I stumbled across a couple of years ago, checking to see if my memory was selective or if the Twins have truly been this horrifying.

Yes, they've been this horrifying.

The Twins have an 18 game postseason losing streak, right?

They scored first in 12 of those games.

That's 67% of the postseason games they lost.

I'm just going to lock this thread now. It can't get worse than this.
