Game Thread "Lewis & Carole" Twins @ Indians 12:10pm cdt 7/14/2019ad

But sampleSize, how can a game thread have 2 names? Um... They are Twins of course...

(But note: it is still only one thread... I have some sense of how far i should take a joke. Not many, but i do have my moments...)

Winning. It is new territory. A place we have visited in the past, but weren't sure we could live there.

So to help folk get used to the idea, i figured would reminisce somewhat.

Good ol' Tom Jefferson had just got himself his version of Nelson Cruz called Louisiana. And wanted to know what he got so he sent Lewis & Carole with their guides Sacajawea and Susan B. Anthony off to hunt the Snark in the new territory.

It was a long time ago, but i don't think they found any. Some Jub Jub Birds, a herd of Bandersnatch, and a couple of stray Jabberwocky. They might have come across a Boojum or two, which traumatized Lewis & Carole into moving back to England and living the sedantary life of a math.

Sacajawea and Susan went on to be the presidents of the US later to appear on dollar coins.

The point of this story is that you can enjoy things without making sense.

Speaking of which...

Over/Under games started at third base by Miguel Sano in 2019.

So far he has 34. The team has 71 games remaining, including today.

The number is 80 (which btw would be a career high)

Over or Under?

Over, assuming Cron is healthy.

Arraez batting clean up. Interesting. Certainly not conventional. His .118 ISO would be the lowest in the lineup but for Cave’s .117.

If the plan is to keep playing him (and I don’t see why it wouldn’t be) it might be time to put him in the lead off spot.

I think I was one of the first advocates of Kepler in the leadoff spot on this board going back to last November. The “common” wisdom was Polanco or Buxton. I felt Polanco was too perfect of a number two hitter to hit lead off and that Buxton wasn’t selective enough to do so. Basically, for my money Kepler was simply the best choice on a roster without many good candidates. IMO, Arraez is a better choice. Higher contact and he certainly has the advanced plate discipline that the role needs. Even at AA, he walked more than he struck out (just under 10% of the time for each using eyeball math). In this era, that’s outstanding.

Can't argue with your rationale, but wither goest Kepler? My fear, probably irrational, would be throwing Kepler off his game by moving him to a less familiar spot in the batting order.

I'm impressed that a recovering alcoholic can succeed at the major-league level.

No Buxton. Any word on how he is doing?

Nothing specific yet.

From Do-Hyoung Park: "Rocco said that Buxton was being examined after the game. Couldn't really offer any specifics other than to say that they wanted to get him looked at and that it could be a day-to-day situation."

From Betsy Helfand: "Byron Buxton is not in the lineup today, and Rocco Baldelli said they didn't have an update yet on him. Plan was for him to be evaluated again this morning. Eddie Rosario went through drills this morning and could possibly return Tuesday."

Looked like a hard face plant was the nature of the injury. Reckon they're being cautious. He'll have 2 days off before Tuesday's game, we'll know more by then I'm sure.

Well, he leads the team in HR and is just two behind for RBI. Clean up would seem to fit. Even when Rosario comes back.

Something like this when “everyone” is healthy”:

2b Arraez

ss Polanco

dh Cruz

rf Kepler

1b Cron

lf Rosario

c Garver

3b Sano

cf Buxton

Sucks to be Schoop but the simple fact is he is being vastly outplayed by anyone and everyone that can play second base on the roster. Technically, Marwin’s numbers are still lower, but he was so terrible in April that since then it just isn’t close.

Wow, somehow that one went way over my head!

Must be because you haven’t had enough to drink yet.

You know what they say: You can’t drink all day if you don’t start before noon...

You have 5 minutes (central time zone)...

It might be worthwhile in August and September to get some guys some pinch hitting at bats, just for the experience. Some guys do it well. Some don’t. Not sure who candidates to be pinch hit for in potential playoff games might be (the problem of an offense that truly lacks a weak link) but there might be a particular reliever that gives certain types of hitters fits.
