Happy Jose Day!!!!

Jose Berrios takes the mound tonight to square off with Aaron Sanchez. The Twins look to tie the season series at 3 games apiece tonight. The team bounced back effortlessly last night with an amazing performance from Martin Perez, and the long ball was working against underrated Blue Jays righty Marcus Stroman. Let's keep it rolling today.

The Pitchers:

Jose Berrios (5-1, 2.91 ERA, 46 K's) vs Aaron Sanchez (3-2, 3.09 ERA, 29 K's)

Jose Berrios is the best Twins pitcher on the staff, and it really isn't all that close. However, we have seen him struggle with his breaking ball in his last few outings. It will be interesting to see how the curveball works against the Blue Jays lineup, one that has a lot of swing and miss in it. On the other side, Aaron Sanchez's numbers look very impressive on the surface. However, he has a FIP that is a full run and a half higher than his ERA. Tonight would be a great night for the actual numbers to match the peripherals. He is walking almost six batters per nine innings, and allowing near 1.5 runners an inning.

The Lineups:

Twins

RF Max Kepler L
SS J. Polanco S
DH Nelson Cruz R
LF E. Rosario L
C Mitch Garver R
1B M. Gonzalez S
2B J. Schoop R
3B E. Adrianza S
CF Byron Buxton R

Blue Jays

SS F. Galvis S
1B Justin Smoak S
CF R. Grichuk R
DH Rowdy Tellez L
3B V. Guerrero Jr. R
RF B. McKinney L
2B B. Drury R
LF T. Hernandez R
C Luke Maile R

The Twins are sending out most of their main lineup, other than at third base and catcher. Jason Castro was removed in the 9th inning in last nights game after being hit by a pitch. The injury isn't believed to be too serious. Ehire Adrianza is also being given his third start in the last five games. I think Rocco is trying to see if he has what it takes to stay on the roster when Astudillo and Miguel Sano are back. I think the answer is no. Jonathan Schoop has hit .321 off Sanchez in 28 at bats, including a homer. Three other Twins have homered off Sanchez. Only 4 Blue Jays have AB's against JO, and Brandon Drury is the only one to have recorded a hit in his career off of the Twins ace.

Mill's Moments

1. Catcher C.J. Cron

With Jason Castro being unavailable for tonight, and more than likely tomorrow, C.J Cron is the emergency catcher. He caught Jake Odorizzi's bullpen this afternoon, and is not in the lineup this evening. I was very surprised when I read on twitter that CJ Cron is the Twins emergency catcher. I imagined that it would be Ehire Adrianza or Marwin Gonzalez, but C.J Cron is the answer according to Rocco. Let's hope we don't have to worry about it.

2. Credit to the Front Office

One thing that is underrated by the front office is their ability to attach team options to the deals that they have signed free agents to. It gives them the choice to opt in if they struck gold (see Martin Perez) or get out of a deal if it isn't working (see Ervin Santana). This is a must in today's game. You have to have roster flexibility, and it isn't something that we have seen the Twins do until a few years ago.

This Day in History:

2010 - A Twins' home game is rained out for the first time since 1980 when steady precipitation forces the team to postpone their contest against Baltimore at Target Field. Minnesota, for nearly the past 30 years, played indoors at the Metrodome before moving to their new open-air ballpark this season. (via Nationalpastime)

Pick to Click: Byron Buxton is going yard tonight, or taking away someone eases chance at going yard.

Go Twins!!!

Wow, that gif of Berrios' curveball is awesome, especially at full speed.  I don't know if I've ever seen a ball break that much.  Seriously looked like it was going to hit the batter and then curves right over the plate.

I'm thinking Garver is the main catcher right now....or at least an equal partner.

I am imagining adding Sano to this lineup, and almost drooling.

Garver is definitely the main catcher, with 18 games (17 at catcher) and 62 PA's compared to Castro's 16 games and 50 PA's.

Because we don't strike out enough?  :)

The Twins have the second fewest strikeouts of any team in baseball.

Sano would certainly help with that, then.

Sanchez is one of those high WHIP guys who tends to work out of jams more often than not. Hopefully the Twins pounce on him one of these innings.

Not really. When he was good, his BB/9 was 3.0. It has been around 5.0 the past three partial seasons and his ERA has reflected it.

Unfortunately, it only seems to move the other direction.

Baseball is too expensive for most inner city kids. I teach at a city high school in Syracuse, we have five high schools, and only one varsity baseball team. The kids simply cannot afford, or do not have interest in the game.

I didn't want to click like but I want to acknowledge your point. It's a shame. Wish there was a good solution.

Have you noticed any impact at all of the RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) program?

Wow, just tuned in to see Berrios gun down Billy McKinney.

He was an awesome bad guy in "The Outlaw Josey Wales" up against Clint Eastwood.

Must suck at baseball, though.

Adrianza can not hit HALF of his weight

He's hitting 69.7% of his weight right now... Just a few more hitless at bats and your statement is true!
