Game Thread: Twins @ White Sox, 8/22@5:10pm PT (7:10 PM CT)

I was waiting for someone to remind me of the game thread I need to write and finally gave up waiting. I decided I needed to get on my butt and get it done. I guess I've learned I shouldn't sit around waiting for people to remind of my obligations. That, and I managed to remember that I needed to do a game thread.

Well, the Twins split the doubleheader (probably would have won the first if they could have batted Polanco back to back) by pounding the ball over the fence in the second game.

The Sox have gone into rebuild mode and are debuting a starting pitcher by the name of Lucas Giolito. The Twins are trotting out Kyle Gibson on this fine evening.

Why is it a fine evening, you ask? Well, baseball is on. So, by the very fact we have baseball, it's a fine evening.

It has really turned into a great season. The Twins are contending for a wild card and the Sox are not. Even more amazing than watching our Twins play meaningful baseball this year is that last year, well, never mind. It's last year and a bad memory. And, with the core group the Twins have, let's hope THAT year (no longer will it be referred to by year, it will be THAT year) remains a bad memory.

With that out of the way, some random thoughts:

Easiest road trip in the US: Highway 10 from LA to Jacksonville FL. No map needed. Just drive west on 10 from LA until the highway ends. Of course, one may not wish to start in LA and prefer to go the other direction. Either way works.

Easiest way to double your money: Fold it, put it back in your pocket.

Easiest way to get fired from a job: Don't show up for a few months. Eventually, your employer will figure it out.

Easiest way to lose money: Put the money somewhere you're "sure" you'll remember where it is.

Easiest way to write a baseball thread: Find someone else to do it. Then take all the credit and none of the blame.

With that, Play Ball!

Is Kepler injured?

I read he is sick, came down with it yesterday and that's why he missed the 2nd game.

Interesting lineup, though I do like the guys who are hot hitting 3-4-5 and that Molitor isn't married to Vargas in the 4-5 spot just because he can hit the ball a long ways.

This game will come on just in time for dinner (or supper if you grew up on a farm) and I think the Twins are having meatballs....I think I will too!

I'm excited to face Giolito. His MiLB splits have righties with a .671 OPS and lefties with a .879 OPS. And that's the minors. THe Twins will send seven lefties to the plate and the two righties are the red hot Dozier and Buxton.

We will need that with Gibson n the mound.

Gotta love Adrianza in LF instead of Garver...smh

See my post about lefty/righty splits vs. Giolito. Love getting more lefty at bats. Especially because I imagine that Adrianza is a better OF than Garver.

I'm still sort of debating whether or not to go after yesterday's LOOOOONG day at the doubleheader ... yes? No? Yes? No? Hmm ...

You know you need more drunken fans to deal with....

Unless the weather is wretched, how can a day at the ballpark not be better than a day not at the ballpark?

You know you need more drunken fans to deal with....

Is that...

a) more fans, also drunk?

or

B) the same fans, now more drunk?

or

c) the chief clause: yes?

Either way, need is perhaps a strong term, i suspect.

Seeing the game live may well be worth the handful of such inconveniencies...

(on second thought, the Last Crusade quote "we pilgrims in an unholy land" is a little over the top to include as a clip...)

I'm worried chef Gibson will be serving up meatballs too, in which case we might not be entitled to chicken dinnah!

I'm excited as an opposing fan to see how he does. Heard a lot of hype over the past few years but the numbers aren't there yet.

Been a few weeks since I've posted thanks to some fun work trips.  I'm happy to say that I was grossly wrong when I was ready to declare the season dead after the efforts on the West Coast.  Hoping that bats will continue their hot streak and blast this minor league pretender back to Charlotte.

If you drive West from LA on I-10 it will not be an easy road trip.

No need to stop and ask directions.

Easy.

Pulling hard for Gibson tonight. The talent is there, and he's a great guy. Really want to see him pull it together and stick.

Side note. We live in Minnesota. What is the game thread title in pacific time, with central time parenthasised? Just curious.

Maybe it's different there, but here in SW Minnesota, it might be the most perfect weather day of the year.

A lot of us don't live in Minnesota.i think it's posted that way to calibrate for the higher levels of 'bounce' we have here in California.

Ok, it's a Minnesota thread. I find it hard to believe the majority are pacific time.

Really not a big deal. Observation from a proud Minnesotan who didn't sell out and move to east/west coasts after college (please don't take that seriously).

It's actually a very nice night out tonight. Being at the game tonight would have been much nicer than yesterday, but I still opted out. I'll go tomorrow and Thurs.

My bad, I had the splits backwards...

I would still like to see Garver play more, but this does make more sense.
