Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 If I'm wrong on this I'll gladly eat crow. But the first pick overall in the 2017 draft is being promoted to Etown. Apparently before the game today, Royce Lewis was pulled into Manager Ramon Borrego's office before the game and told he was getting the promotion. Initially, Royce was told the Manager wanted to see him, Royce "thought why am I in trouble, I thought I had a good week".
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Etown is a waste of his time, and the Twins already have a plenty good SS there. Send him to Cedar Rapids.

Just curious, but do you think you'll remain a fan once you leave? Hope you continue posting

jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Royce Lewis should keep a suitcase packed.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Honestly, were I a betting man, I'd lay money he finishes the season there.I would agree, if only for the last week of the season.
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 Can you please not move from the area? Just curious, but do you think you'll remain a fan once you leave? Hope you continue postingLOL, sorry but money and opportunity are out West, as I told Brusdar it's the difference between playing in AAA and MLB. It would kind of be stupid to pass it up, but I still plan on keeping the house in FL so I'll be back occasionally. As for the second question, that's a loaded one. First off I'll tell you what I tell all the players, coaches, FO personnel, etc when they ask if I'm a Twins fan as I wear a Cubs' hat every weekend. I'm a baseball fan, probably better yet I'm a baseball addict. I absolutely love watching it whether it's high school, college, MiLB, MLB, indyball etc, it's my form of church, mediation, relaxation. Honestly I can say I don't watch many MLB Twins games just the ones that Berrios pitches as I've watched and talked with him since the 2012 GCL so I'm a kind of invested personally with him. When Fernando Romero gets called up, it'll be even more as I sat on the bench with in GCL while he was rehabbing, just talking with him and being the victim of him plucking my leg hairs as I recorded video so I'd mess up. In the show now, I watched Byron Buxton's first professional games in the GCL, I was at Miguel Sano's Hi A game in Bradenton when he got called up to AA, and I've never seen a kid so happy. I've watched Nick Gordon play in tournament ball around FL two years before the Twins drafted him. Coming up the pipeline there's even more and more, from Trey Cabbage, Brusdar Graterol, Luis Arraez, Lachlan Wells, etc. So I guess you can say I like a lot of Twins' players and up and coming prospects and I'll continue to follow them so I'll be around. Also it doesn't hurt that the conversation and dialogue on here is far beyond most fan sites that I've frequented in the past.

twinsfanstreif Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Good for him. I am going on record as saying I loved the pick from the beginning, I cheered in my car as the pick was announced. I am a fan of this guy and am cheering for him. Hoping for Cedar Rapids before the season is up!!!
twinsfanstreif Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 so after looking at the E-Town roster there really needs to be at least one move to fit Lewis in there, they have like 5 SS right now. Maybe they move Gore, Miranda, or Javier to give Lewis some consistent playing time
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 I was told that there is no update on Lewis (or Rooker) right now.
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 I was told that there is no update on Lewis (or Rooker) right now.Like I said, I'll gladly eat crow As Lewis is in the GCL lineup today, batting second, and has already stole a base and scored a run. Not being challenged enough offensively, defensively he gets an "eh" at SS, probably not even the best SS on the GCL squad.
Taildragger8791 Verified Member Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Super early but just about everyone of the first 10 round picks is doing pretty good. Maybe these guys know what they're doing and will come up with some pitchers despite waiting to take them. Of course I would have been disappointed if it was anyone but Lewis so I don't have that same perspective. Not sure what you're basing that on when half of them haven't appeared in a game yet. Lewis and Rooker are doing well, although Rooker is already showing some strikeout issues at a level that should be well below him. Enlow/Leach haven't played yet. Faucher and Sammons have started well aside from some walks, but they're also college players pitching in the Appy league. Everyone else hasn't played or hasn't done anything to get excited about. Way too early to make any assessments.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Another big day for him, this should happen very soon.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I wonder how much the front office cares about performance in the draft year. Is there really a difference between GCL and Appy for Lewis right now? I would say keep him in Ft Myers or promote to Cedar Rapids. The Appy is pointless for him. No matter what happens (injury aside) he is starting next season at Cedar Rapids.

If there's more college age pitching in the Appy League then maybe I'd send him there if they feel he's not being challenged in the GCL. If it's a horse apiece, then I guess I'd keep him in Ft. Myers as well if only to get more time with the instructors down there. If he has any chance to be a SS, I'd like to see them do everything possible to continue that development.

Appy League is going to be second tier International guys a couple years in, 2nd/3rd year HS arms, and recent later round college arms. So slightly more veteran and polished, but realistically not better stuff.
Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Another day Lewis is batting leadoff and playing SS down in the GCL, went 2 for 4 with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, although the bum was picked off for his first caught stealing of the season
Whammy Verified Member Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 The box score showed him with a CS and a PO. Not accurate?

Whammy Verified Member Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 same thing. get a CS everytime picked off by a lefty going on first movement All PO are a CS, but not all CS are a PO. Seems odd to call one play two different things in the box score

Bob Sacamento Verified Member Posted July 14, 2017 Author Posted July 14, 2017 Royce did not play in today's GCL game, don't know whether it was a standard day off or something else. I'll be out at Centurylink Sports Complex for the beginning of the game tomorrow.
