Nicknames are a hard business. The only one I partially came up with along with my buddy Doug, was for Delmon Young in 2008. We Christened him "Clunky". It worked and made sense.

A lot of these names have been used.  The Big Cat?? (Andres Gallaraga)

Does anyone know the story why Andres Gallaraga was nicknamed the Big Cat? It's a great nickname...

Nicknames are easy

Sanosie

Polancosie (Maybe this one needs to be Polanco-nator)

Dozie

Mauersie

...

It's like you missed an entire era of Twins ball (you lucky guy)

Never nervous Erv

Kyle "Hawaii 5-0" Gibson (because you'll be down 5-0 pretty quick when he's on the mound).

Hector the K collector

Phil "The Bruise" Hughes

Mejia la Guerrilla

These are good. May I suggest Hector the Kollector?!

I am a mean person, if by mean you mean average.

I also am normal, by the by.

In my statistics class I was referred to as the mean square deviate.

I like Jason "the carpenter" Castro for his framing ability.  I think some nicknames should be retired (Babe) but Big Cat...I don't thing Andres Gallaraga is quite in the same class as George Herman Ruth.  Here's today's lineups

Texas

1. Shin-Soo Choo (L) DH
2. Carlos Gomez ® CF
3. Nomar Mazara (L) RF
4. Mike Napoli ® 1B
5. Rougned Odor (L) 2B
6. Elvis Andrus ® SS
7. Joey Gallo (L) 3B
8. Jonathan Lucroy ® C
9. Ryan Rua ® LF

Andrew Cashner on the hill

Twins

1. Brian (Bull) Dozier ® 2B
2. Max (Der Schlager) Kepler (L) RF
3. Miguel (Big Cat) Sano ® 3B
4. Joe (The Wall...Wally for short) Mauer (L) 1B
5. Jorge (Plunk) Polanco (S) SS
6. Jason (The Carpenter) Castro (L) C
7. Kennys (Pork Chop) Vargas (S) DH
8. Eddie (Fast Eddie) Rosario (L) LF
9. Byron (BB3B) Buxton ® CF

Erv (The Blade) Santana cutting them down

The blade...

Wasn't there a Boris the Blade, aka Boris the Bullet Dodger?

Why is that? because he dodges bullets.

Hmmm.  Not sure, but I toyed with The Knife, but maybe I just need to be more generic and go with Erv "Slice" Santana or possibly Mac Santana (short for Mac the Knife)

Oh don't me wrong. Blade is fine.

That was all a reference from the movie Snatch.

Another memorable character in that movie is named Bricktop, who when asked if he takes sugar in his tea responds, "no thanks, i'm sweet enough."

I do enjoy Plank over Plunk. It invokes a sturdiness, a constant everywhere ya look. So much so one could get board...

Below avg career and all...

grossman is leading the league in obp... and his defense had looked kubelesque (barely serviceable) this year..

I think it's because he was pretty nimble with the glove, particularly for his size. I remember him making some pretty impressive stretches to pick throws out of the dirt.

Very cool. Didn't get to know who he was until the end of his career... This is dangerous, but was he popped for steroids at any time? Looking at his stats now, I guess I always assumed he was a 40 HR hitter but that didn't happen until the late 90s when I started loving baseball.

Lineups that continue to defy logic. Vargas AFTER Castro? Really? Flip Kepler and Polanco. Flip Vargas and Mauer. That would make more sense. Of course, that would put 4 lefties in a row.

These nicknames hearken back to about 30 years ago when Chris Berman on ESPN was topical and funny. SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight were must-see back in the pre-internet days. His nicknames were not really nicknames but they were often entertaining. I always liked Bert "Be Home" Blyleven.

I don't think so. He wasn't in the Mitchell Report. I think he was considered guilty of playing in Colorado more than he was of playing with PEDs.
