Next time can you find a less mouth-wateringly delicious looking chicken picture?  'Cause now I'm hungry.

It helped that this was prior to wild card and divisional series, so they only had two win two play-off series and not three.  It would have been a lot more difficult for them to win three series.

Obviously its always easier to win two series than three but I'm not sure that the Twins wouldn't have done it. They were a perfect playoff team - they hit like crazy with a ton of HR power and they really only had two pitchers so being able to start those guys 5/7 or 4/5 games was a huge benefit (most teams did three pitchers back then). You only got one or two games of Les Straker.

Oh and they had a relatively nice pen.

Sometimes a team gets hot. The 87 Twins were that team.

I came into this season with low expectations, and I am thrilled to get back to .500 and for Santana to have an ERA of 0.77. I will be praying that Santana is on the mound when the Twins are in Los Angeles.

Maybe the humor got lost in the salmonella.

Be glad that smell-o-vision hasn't become mainstream yet.

Hmmm.  Not sure, but I toyed with The Knife, but maybe I just need to be more generic and go with Erv "Slice" Santana or possibly Mac Santana (short for Mac the Knife)

I am pretty sure Scott Baker would love to get rid of that Moonshot nickname, he probably even show up so as to hand that nickname over to someone else.  Also, you might want to consult with Christian Guzman and Luis Rivas if there is going to be any knife wielding going on around here again.  Ha ha :jump:

The nickname day was a really great idea!

He's a smart veteran and he's getting outs, and in doing so he's providing the younger pitchers with valuable leadership by example.

In sports psychology this is known as The "Look what Zog do!" Effect.

It also helped that the Cardinals only real power hitter, Jack Clark, was injured and unable to play. It also helped that their only other power threat (Terry Pendelton) could only hit left handed and couldn't play the field. It also helped that the Cards went to game 7 in the NLCS forcing them to start Joe Magrane in game one, and then eventually forced to use him in game 7.

Sometimes a team gets lucky. That was the 1987 Twins. And 1991 forvthat matter.
