Perkins shut down again

Not disagreeing with any of that, but there's a new regime, and they're not going to put him out there if he's not ready.

Agree.  Falvey & Co. had a pretty quick trigger on Park.

So translation, he's throwing like low to mid 80's. I think the shoulder has likely ended whatever he once was. I unfortunately think this is something that he never will come back to be "full strength" from. He might be pretty close to his now max full strength, but just doesn't realize this is pretty much it. Wish that wasn't my gut feeling here, but it certainly is.

History has shown that labrum problems are not easy to recover from and usually is the end of the line. Large chance that Perk is done.

So disappointing. They should have traded him when he was at his peak. A top flight closer on a team losing 90+ games is superfluous. I was banging that drum back in 2014.

Much like a 2B is on a 103 or 85 loss team....

Sure.  Same injury he got after the All Star break in 2016, continued to pitch hurt and cost the Twins the post-season.   Matter of fact, check this out.  It is from the time of the grievance.  The issue he had back then was his shoulder as well.

1.) You had to link to an article that reminded me of Joe Crede and his back didn't you. This is the second time this week you're out to depress me  :)

2.) I hope he's okay, I hope he's as good as he was (man I love me some Perkins...the restaurant too), I hope if he's not, this is a fine litmus test for how injured players are handled in both the media and when to put them on the DL

This is a shame because Perk had really become a spokesperson for the team and was great for a few years, but the torque on a pitching arm is so severe I think we need to think of moving on if this persists to Spring Training.  Given the team level I would suggest that if we think he will pitch in the future we should take half a year to really get him ready.  In the meantime - no Breslow or other washed out vets - get the younger relievers who are no longer the really young players we tend to think of since we first saw them come around Spring Training.

The biggest mistake of the second Ryan era.

Rhett Bollinger reports that Perkins has experienced soreness and will postpone his first scheduled bullpen that was supposed to happen tomorrow, indefinitely.    According to Bollinger "Perkins, determined he wasn't ready to take that next step and will continue to build arm strength before getting off a mound."

Also there, is reported that Perkins has been throwing from flat ground, but only fastballs.

I think that 60 day DL starting next week might give the Twins some flexibility at this point.

I'm a little surprised that they had him scheduled to do a bullpen session. Just a couple of weeks ago he said there was no way he was going to be ready anytime soon and that the only plans were soft tossing on grass. Maybe Rhett is just getting the story late or maybe the Twins tried to force something.

Or maybe that was part of his rehab schedule issued by his doctor, therapist, trainer ... and when the time got there, they all said he wasn't ready.

Or maybe he indeed had a setback.  From the horse's mouth.  Perkins himself calls it "a bumb on the road".

Only if things changed in the past couple of weeks, which seems doubtful. Perkins made it clear that he was not doing a bullpen session anytime soon.

It doesn't seem like a "setback" since he said he wasn't anywhere close to being ready to do a bullpen session just a couple of weeks ago. This seems like the same course he was on to me.

To me this is a non-story because Perkins already said this stuff.

It's a story now, as Perkins tossed the ball to Hughes today, under the watchful eye of a trainer the whole time.

This would be a good time to start a rumor that Hughes is moving to catcher.

Well, uh, if you can't pitch from the mound, that's probably not ideal if your job is to, you know, pitch from the mound.....

edit:

help me out....if he was expected to throw from the mound, but now can't, how is that not a setback? alternativesetback?

2nd edit:

someday I'm going to edit a post after someone has liked it, and then call that person a doodoo head....

I'm kinda nervous to LIKE anything you post now...

I have enough people calling me that.

Thanks! I was remembering the position player date, I guess.

Dunno, didn't pitchers and catchers report between Feb 15-20 most years? Has the date steadily moved forward the past few years?

Feb 13 seems really early to me, though most teams are reporting between Feb 13-15 this year.
