Where are you from (be as specific as you are comfortable):
- Originally from South Dakota. Moved around a bit after college, but now settled in DC.
What is your age (or age range, if you prefer):
- Mid-thirties.
How long have you been a Twins fan?
- I've been a Twins fan for as long as I can remember.
What have a couple of your best Twins memories been?
- After being sent to bed in the middle of the game, I remember waking up my dad super early in the morning the day after Game 7 of the 1991 WS. I just asked "Did they win?". He said yes, and I went back to bed.
- Alone in a Northern Virginia bar, rooting for the Twins in game 163 in 2009. Only person in the bar that cared about the game.
Who have some of your favorite players been?
- I don't think any recent player can match the love I had as a child for Greg Gagne and Scott Erickson.
How long have you been reading Twins Daily (or were you following some writers before Twins Daily)?
- I think from the beginning.
What brings you back to Twins Daily? How often do you stop by the site?
- I come back for the informed and civil discussion. Also, it is a place I find links to other Twins-related info. I stop by way too often.

I'm 62 years old and recently widowed, which is why I've contributed less in the last six months than before.

I've been a Twins fan since they moved from DC and I've had favorites from every era. My all-time favorite is Michael Cuddyer, probably more for his off-field persona than his good career. The '87 and '91 seasons were special-the crowd waiting for the team after they beat Detroit in '87 has to be the pinnacle, even more than the events on the field.

As I've grown older, my appreciation for the game has increased, as has my respect for the men and women who put organizations together. It's hard to put together a great organization, and even harder to sustain it.

I grew up in the tiny town of Minnesota Lake, went to Southwest State for college and lived in and around Rochester for over 40 years. I used my Psychology degree in working with chemical dependency and adolescents with behavioral problems, but for the last 36 years I've worked with mail-25 years with the Postal Service and 11 years with the Mayo Clinic, where I manage their Mail Center.

Outside of the Twins, I enjoy all sports, but I never consider another team as "we" or "us". I love to play golf and follow politics pretty closely. I have met several contributors to TD , including several mods and have enjoyed their company. I have gone to Spring Training four times and hope to make it again, but probably not in 2017. I would advise a trip to Fort Myers for any Twins fan.

Im so sorry stringer bell.

Spring training is definitely a goal of mine, but it usually falls during Lent which makes it a challenge for my wife to travel. Maybe 2018 we can go for the first week.

Let me add my condolences to you, stringer. As someone of similar age I can say this was way too early to lose your wife and I hope all goes as well as possible for you as the future unfolds.

Posted

I wanted to get to this earlier but typically I'm mobile while at home and only use a desktop at work. So back at work, not working!

Where are you from (be as specific as you are comfortable):

I am from Fargo and I have spent most of my life here. However I'm not very ND familiar, as most of my relations live in Minnesota. My parents are now in the Western lakes area and my sister and in-laws are in the metro suburbs.

What is your age (or age range, if you prefer):

I'm in my late 30's though my wife for some reason always just says "almost 40". She's been saying that for awhile now though so I'm skeptical. Seems like I have a couple years left but I'm not great with math.

How long have you been a Twins fan?

I've been a Twins fan since I started following sports, which was fortunately around 1987. Baseball was always my first sport, my grandfather played some minor league ball and my dad was a great Legion player. My Coke-bottle glasses were a bit of a hindrance for me. I like to say I couldn't pick up the ball fast enough to hit it, but I was probably terrible regardless of eye-site.

What have a couple of your best Twins memories been?

Both World Series hands down. I got to go to a game in 1991 but I was never so excited to watch a sporting event as I was watching those championships as a kid. Now I'm desperately hopeful that you get the same feeling as an adult. Fingers crossed. I loved the Renaissance team's of early this century and saw quite a few excellent games at the Metrodome, but even the gulf between the competitive seasons were fun to go to. There was something about going to games in the mostly empty stadium, it was like they were playing the games just for you. Also getting batting practice balls were really easy to get back then. Once as a teenager I monkeyed down to the floor behind the wall where the bleachers were pushed back and loaded up my pockets with about ten balls. When I climbed back up the usher chewed me out and took the balls but he didn't kick me out and he didn't get the four in my back pockets!

My first game I ever attended was Rod Carew day in 1987, they retired his number and drove him around in a convertible. It was pretty cool.

Who have some of your favorite players been?

My favorite player was Kirby, but it's been hard to have the same idolization of players since. My first favorite player was Tim Laudner though. At Rod Carew day we were sitting in the second row behind the Twins bullpen (ha, the Metrodome had bullpens?). Laudner wasn't starting that day but wandered down to the pen early to start warming up pitchers because Mike Smithson was starting and Mike Smithson liked to give up HRs early and often. I had a handful of baseball cards with me and one was of Launder. My dad had been prodding me for a couple of innings to ask for his autograph. Laudner was done warming up Jeff Reardon when the top of the 9th started and I finally called down to him asking for his autograph. He said back, "Sorry kid. Can't now I have to go catch". Randy Bush had double switched for Sal Butera the inning before. Not even for a second was I disappointed that I didn't get the autograph, I couldn't believe that he'd actually talked to me! I then looked at the back of the card and it turned out we had the same birthday. Well except for the year.

How long have you been reading Twins Daily (or were you following some writers before Twins Daily)?

I've been a member since March of 2012 or so my profile says. I wish I had known BYTO, but this is really the only social media I do so I'm never up to date on cool things. I think I heard John mention they were going to launch this site on KFAN. I previously had been posting on some national site with a Twins section called Pro Sports Daily. There were a few regular posters there, some have found there way over here I think.

What brings you back to Twins Daily? How often do you stop by the site?

I am contractually obligated to moderate Twins Daily daily. Still waiting for my first paycheck.

One additional thing?

I think I mentioned it once before, but for anyone wondering why nicksaviking is moderating a Twins site; back when I first started dating my wife I used to have trouble remembering my emails, passwords and usernames for everything. This was likely because I would create them at 2 AM and they were irreverent to the point of being un-remember-able unless I recalled the joke that was going through my less than fully functional brain at the time. My not-yet-wife created the nicksaviking email and told me to stick with it, so I did.

I have been a Twins Fan for 50 years. I was raised on a farm in NE Montana and my Dad and I would listen to the games on the radio in the evening after he was finished with his work for the day. Halsey Hall and Herb Carneal could call a good game and Killebrew, Oliva and Carew would become my favorites. Then like everyone else Puckett was the man. I played baseball and basketball in college at LC State in Lewiston ID. and played 1 year in Ranger Organization. Currently live in Vancouver WA. and retired from financial services. Visit the site a couple times a day and enjoy the chance to chime in whenever the urge arises.

All,

I am from California, early 50's and am new to being a Twins fan as a result of the organization selecting my son in the recent draft.

I love to see the stories and passion of the fans.  I am also a die-hard A's fan where it is a fun brand of baseball to watch, but tough to get attached to any player, since they will likely be moved for prospects in a year or two.

Kudos to you guys when we get to watch and read about the top 10-20 prospects.  Remember, being a top 1-3 round pick means you are expected to succeed.  Granted, if the scouts were that good at evaluating talent, they'd be a GM's, haha!

I'd love to see other stories about dark horses, which makes the writer look like a genius if they see something the scouts didn't.  If nothing else... it allows the fans the opportunity to get to know the other players in the organization.

Keep up the good work and go Twins!!!

All,

Adding to the young millennial trend...I just turned 22 yesterday. I've been lurking on the site since high school and decided this would be a good way to start.

I grew up in the western suburbs of the TC area...going to graduate this May from Iowa State.

I've been a Twins fan since I can remember...my dad got me into it. I've been lucky enough to mooch off his season tickets since they moved into Target Field  :)

Favorite memories are based off the environment...loved watching playoff ball when they made it...saw Thome hit the Foul Pole...chatted with JoBerrios's dad for a bit when he was warming up at the Futures game

Grew up playing ball with family/friends now playing D1 or in minors...excited/interested to see where they end up.

I've checked TD every day for the past 5 years or so...gives me a chance to look smart when I talk Twins with my friends, so I appreciate that haha.

Have been reading Twins Daily since the beginning. Had been reading some of the posters work prior to this site. I check this website at least once a week. Sometimes I check it daily or several times a day, it depends on what's happening with the team. Dozier trade rumors have definitely made it daily this offseason.

I've been a TD member since 2015.  Can't even remember how I found it but I'm here now...Started writing Game Thread intro's last year and had an absolute blast doing it. I was still a newbie and scared to do it but glad I did!  If you haven't watched a game while posting on a Game Thread your missing one of the best aspects of this site.  They are hilarious!  If you are new to Twins Daily don't be afraid to post your thoughts or start a new topic thread.  Everyone is respectful.

I have cheered on the Twins ever since I was a small kid growing up in Bloomington, MN.  As a mid 40's guy now I remember going to the old Met and seeing Rod Carew play.  I moved away from the Twin Cities in 92 (with stops in Florida, Alabama and Philly).  While away I still followed the team closely.  Living in Florida for 7 years allowed me to see a lot of Twins spring training games.  I still think Ft. Myers is one of the best baseball experinces there is.  I came back in 2004 and moved to the Minnetonka area.  It's great to be back and watch my home team play regularly.

I have a few favorite Twins moments:

1. Sitting with my dad during Game 7 of the World Series.  He got a phone call that day around noon with an offer for two tickets.  Needless to say we took them.

2. Game 6 at the 1991 World Series.  My college roommate's dad called that morning and said he had two tickets for us.  He was going to be with customers in a suite and asked if we wanted to go.  Of course we wanted to go.  We drove to the game from St. Cloud and picked up the tickets from his dad.  We walked in and couldn't believe our eyes.  They were literally in the front row over the Braves dugout.  Jane Fonda and Ted Turner sat down next to us in the first inning but had to leave after the 2nd inning because the verbal abuse was getting a little out of hand from the fans behind us.  After Puckett hit his homer I watched Charlie Liebrandt walk off the field with tears in his eyes.

3. In 1997 while living in the Tampa area an old buddy of mine gave me some press passes for an old timers game at Al Lang Stadium in St. Pete.  My wife and I decided to see how far these passes would take us.  After the 3rd inning we decided to try and walk onto the field.  The usher let us right through and we walked over to the American league dugout.  We walked right in and stood in the corner.  As soon as we walked in I saw Bert Blyleven and Harmon Killebrew sitting at the far end of the bench.  I walked right over to them and introduced myself.  Told them I was the biggest Twins fan around.  They laughed when I told them how we got into the dugout.  They invited me to sit down with them and I watched the rest of the game with those two.  Both were real class acts.  Everything they say about Harmon is true.  One of the nicest and most humble man I ever met. My new wife wasn't impressed with my behavior though.  I think I may have ignored her the rest of the game...

Favorite Players:  Killebrew, Carew, Nathan, Hrbek, Blyleven, Puckett, Gladden

I stop by TD everyday.  Still the best spot for Twins info and bantering with other die hard Twins fans.

Great idea to do this!  I am another old-timer - recently turning 53. I have an Electrical Engineering degree and worked in Defense but went to get my MBA and now in the Financial business.  I have been a Twins fan since the late 60's or as long as I have followed baseball.  I was born in Washington DC and have lived in Maryland, the gulf coast of Mississippi, Southern California and currently in Arlington, TX.  So why am I a Twins fan - too long to explain and would only make sense to my 5 yr old self but I am a die-hard loyal fan of all Minnesota teams.

My favorite Twin of all-time is Tony Oliva also liked Killebrew, Carew, Blyleven, Larry Hisle, Bill Campbell, Puckett, Aguilera, Radke, Johan Santana.  Best memories are whenever I got to see the Twins in person, the '87 series win because the first is always special, and the topper which I have mentioned before on here was the Twins winning the '91 series in game 7 on my birthday.

I was following Seth's site - so I followed that to Twins Daily when it began.   This is a great source for all information on the Twins and their minor league teams and I try to check it almost every day.   During the season I especially like the minor league daily updates (especially when the big league team is having a bad year) and the game threads because I don't get to watch many games.

Here's to a Great 2017 season!

I guess I'm a bit late but since I never post I'll go for it.

I'm 22, so beefing up the younger ranks here. I'm from NY, a stone's throw from Queens, but I currently live abroad in Russia. I've never actually stepped foot in Minnesota, although I imagine I will spend some time there in the future.

I started rooting for the Twins when I was 7, during the early part of the 2002 season. I had abandoned the Yankees after they signed Giambi, since I was legitimately upset that they were trying to buy championships. Anyway, that outfield of Hunter, Jones, & eventually Stewart was super cool and so easy to root for.

I'd say my favorite players have been Torii, Jacque Jones, Denard Span, and Cuddyer. I really like Buxton and Kepler but I need to give them some time before they become favorites. My favorite moment was the entirety of game 163 against the Tigers (although game 163 against the Chisox was an incredible game despite the loss).

I've been lurking here for years--not sure the exact number though. It's always seemed a little inconvenient to post, but following the intelligence and wit of the site is a pleasure.

To be honest, I've been thinking about my career lately and I'd love to try to get a job in baseball, so if anyone has any advice or anything feel free to let me know (especially if Jack Goin is reading this =D).

Mid-40s. Went to several games at the old Met, including a memorable 4th of July where they let everyone on the roof after the game to watch the fireworks. The Met was a great stadium for baseball, though there were very few amenities inside (and little room for them anyway). The outfield seats were not connected to the main stadium in any way, if you came in on the outfield side there was no way to the rest of the stadium.

I felt like the lone Twins fan during the 81-87 seasons. Over that last month in 87, everyone in Minnesota was a Twins fan. In many ways I think the Twin Cities needed that championship. Everyone came together, it was a good time.

Right after 87 World Series concluded, I moved to Texas, ending up in Austin for many years. I am currently in Chicago.

By trade I am a data scientist, producing data on anything the executives ask for. Dollars, sales, utilization, whatever. Sometimes it's a question like, "Why are people suddenly buying this in this part of the country?" and figuring out the answer. Other times it's more banal basic market analysis trends. If the execs can't figure out an answer, I'm the one they call. It is not uncommon for the data to show the exact opposite of what people's perceptions are and learning this has taught me to scrutinize everything that people say about baseball players. And, at the danger of sounding like an arse, I'm usually right when I am skeptical about a player that everyone else loves (or when I love a player that others don't consider interesting).

Every time I see your user name.....I don't see the N for some reason....
