I will repost the update from Reddit shortly and will keep this thread updated as well with anything new.

I have missed the last 20 pages of posts due to the weekend.  Can you quickly update me/us on what the Reddit thread is about?  Also, is it new information regarding the trade separate from your information, so essentially another sourced update on the deal?

If people could pick a favorite/realistic/previously mentioned group of 3-4 players, what would the favorite be?

1) Bellinger, De Leon, other

2) Stewart, Alvarez, Lux

3) De Leon, Alvarez, other

4) De Leon, Stewart, Lux

5) De Leon, Lux, Puig

What am I missing? Which ones are realistic?

De Leon, Alvarez, others......though if they it was Bellinger and not Alvarez, I'd still vote "yay". I just want more high upside pitching.

I'm with you, although part of me would LOVE the Stewart, Alvarez and Lux trade, if that is on the table. De Leon has only thrown over 100 innings in a season once (114 in 2015) and only threw 88 in 2016. In thinking he isn't ready for a full season until possibly 2018.

Some ways I don't want this trade to happen. But unless Dozier IS in the longterm plans of the Twins...like does he have a position to play come 2019 thru 2021, there is little or no reason to keep him around. Yes, we lose a lot of home runs between him and Plouffe. We do have Sano and possibly a regular DH coming fulltime into the mix, as well as Kepler and Rosario getting their act together. Polanco would bring a different mix to the position, but we need a shortstop, unless Escobar returns to his 2015 form.

A bigger question is what happens if you do trade Brian for, say, four guys. You need to find roster space for at least a couple of them (which, in reality, shouldn't be hard). And you do have to ask yourself as general manager where the other pieces fit into the organization, as well as longterm planning.

Amazing response on this posting.

But we sometimes forget all the implications of a big trade, especially where the pieces fit. Like we don't need another first baseman, perhaps. Or what level prospect do we grab for the minor leagues and what is the chance of them making the major leagues. And does it then make other players expendable, and what can you egt for them, if anything.

Let's say, hypothetically, a deal of Stewart, Alvarez and Lux for Dozier takes place. Stewart is in the rotation day 1, but Alvarez is at fort Myers next year to start, and Lux is probably at Cedar Rapids at some point next year. In that scenario, the only thing to do with the 40 man or opening day roster would be figuring out the rotation, but maybe also finding a new ss and/or outfielder.

Isn't acquiring more talent, overall, a good thing?

So... I took yesterday off from this thread and everybody goes crazy!

Anyway, it looks like Dave's post on reddit has been removed. So what's the update? I see that the Dodgers are close to resigning Turner. Does that improve or hurt the chances of this trade happening?

Posted

Dave's last update at the reddit account was Deleon, rhp, Alverez, rhp, a AAAA prospect and possibly a player to be named later. He said it was their final offer.

I am not totally discounting what he is saying because it does seem like the Dodgers are wanting to get the Turner deal and Jansen deal figured out before they complete a possible trade with the Twins. If Turner didn't resign they would have to be possibly shipping prospects to the White Sox for Frazier.

So let's hope Turner signs if you are wanting the Twins to deal for Deleon and Alverez, two high ceiling pitchers who could really help the Twins in a year or two. Our pitching was SO bad last year.

So if i understand this correctly: 4 prospects including De-Leon and Alvarez plus two rhp's and ptbnl?

Seems like a lot for Dozier.

No, he was saying De Leon and Alvarez were the 4 RHP....

4 prospects overall. Two of which are De Leon and Alvarez, with 2 AAAA player types, IIRC.

This thread is losing steam, but it has been a huge part of my life this past week....and I just can't let it go.

DaveW has been a good sport, but I do believe that some of the flack he's caught is more of the good nature sort and not the type to get moderators involved in, or for him to take seriously. Just good old fashion buddy teasing type stuff- for the most part.

No new updates yet. Source is getting impatient themselves for the deal to finalize!!

Woah! Ken Rosenthal. "Sources: #Dodgers close on both Turner AND Jansen." I wonder how that effects Dozier trade. I know Dodgers have only one spot on their 40 man roster.

I would think not using prospects to acquire a 3b is a good thing for the pursuit of Dozier

A PTBNL at this stage sounds like someone drafted in 2016 and not eligible for trade. Saying "possibly a PTBNL" doesn't sound final to me. By that I mean the two teams still have something to work out.

They changed that so they could include a player just drafted in 2016.

I would think, this time of year, "player to be named later" isn't one of the players added in a deal. If/when a trade happens, all of the players will be named at that time

I think it bodes well, as they fell short with this core, are going all in, and could use Dozier.

if I'm the Twins, if money is an issue, take back one bad contract for next year....

Whatever gets the best prospects back, I am basically all for that

I think this sets up nicely for the Dozier deal to get done this week. All off the Dodgers' attention will now be on improving.

If the Dodgers sign Turner, Jansen, and Holland with only one 40 man spot on their roster. That leaves them with two extra on their forty man. Twins could probably get a major league outfielder or starting pitcher out of this Dozier deal. Dodgers just have too many people. Not sure I'm too excited about Kazmir as one example.

If they trade for Dozier that adds one more so 42/43 (depending on if they sign Holland)? Subtract De Leon and Stewart and your back to 40 correct?

I'd think the Twins could trade for Puig in addition to DeLeon and other prospects. They'd take on the contract, which would give the Dodgers some cost relief they need. And I remain convinced Puig would be a superb addition to the outfield.

I know a lot of others don't like Puig much. But his first two years in the league ... boy that would be sweet in a Twins uniform next to Sano if he could do that again.

I don't know where the twins thinking is, but I would LOVE getting Puig. Especially since we are talking trading of Dozier because he is at the height of his value. Puig, I don't believe, is anywhere near the height of his. Put him with De Leon and another prospect, that is a great haul!
