I agree, but how many weeks/starts would he needs to stay down for the Twins to gain further control?

 

 

According to this article, he has used 29 days of service already, and has 3 full years from now before he would hit arbitration. I don't know what that means in terms of if he stays down in AAA this year or not, but I would believe it would have to be a majority of the year for it to matter.

 

I'm good, if we trade for him, being up day 1. He is 24 and will be 25 at the start of August.

29 days service on B-Ref too.  172 days equals 1 full service season.  So we could have him up for 142 days next season if we want to keep him under that threshold at the end of the year.

 

Season ends Oct. 1, 2017, so we could call him up May 13th to delay his free agency by one year.

 

Probably not a big deal for a pitcher. "Super 2" arbitration status would be even less of a concern.

Dave W's commitment to excellence in this thread has been admirable. Now let's all really hope that an actual trade happens so we can all go home happy.

 

Whether it's true or not, I for one think this has been a great thread. And if he's wrong then he's no different than 100 percent of national baseball reporters, who frequently report trades that don't get done. At this time of year, it's important to take every report with a grain of salt.

 

That said, I hope it's true.
