Is this the final straw for Milone?

He has been downright awful all season long. 3 out of 12 starts where he has pitched 6 complete innings or more. What possible reason is he on this team?

Something like Tommy + Milone = DFA.

I was gonna start a topic but you beat me to it.Just time to rip the band-aid off and move on. Absolutely zero chance he is offered arbitration so let's see what we can do the last couple of months with try outs from Rochester.

Gotta hold on to the bitter end, just in case we can squeeze some meaningless PTBNL or cash for him.

Things like this are why I want our new GM to be from outside the organization.

With him saying he had something with his shoulder, I think there are two options. They DL him for the rest of the year, or they DFA him (if deemed healthy). I'm sure they hoped he would do enough to get traded.

Just DFA him, what is the point in DLing him? He isn't coming back next year.

As I said in another post - isn't it amazing how dominant Milone was in Rochester? How can you possibly evaluate a pitcher on minor league results - the stats seem meaningless.

What about K rate, WHIP, FIP, and so on? One would assert that there is a way to measure AAA pitchers and their likelihood of success

If Milone has a shoulder issue I would think the union contract would say the Twins need to treat it hence the dl. It would be what is best for all parties involved.

Lavelle says both Milone and Boshers are getting MRIs today for their aching shoulder/elbow. If Milone is hurt, then put him on the DL the rest of the season. If he's able to play, DFA him. It may be harsh, but there's no longer a justifiable reason to keep him on the MLB roster.

15-day DL right now, and then 60-day DL as soon as we need the 40-man roster spot, would have the same effect as releasing him (except he couldn't return for another team this season, obviously).

I'm really stumped why Milone wasn't waived/released/traded (with salary eaten) on August 1st.  He had no chance to rebuild value for a better August trade while he was in a mop-up role.

And even if a starter got hurt in August, we'd almost certainly get better value out of auditioning someone like Mejia or Wheeler rather than rolling the dice one final time on boosting Milone's value for trade (something he's already failed at multiple times).

Again, what is the point?

Do all Twins pitchers try to pitch through their injuries so that they have a ready made excuse for when they are exposed?  I thought this injury/training staff situation was going to be straightened out when TR came back.

Technically, I don't think you can release an injured player in-season?  I think you can only DL them, then you have to wait until they are healthy before you can release them, or until after the season when you can simply choose not to offer them another contract.

It's only ever an issue when you want to add someone to your 40-man midseason, but it's full and the guy you want to cut is on the 15-day DL.  You pretty much have to wait then or find someone else to cut (or convince the player that he needs to be on the 60-day DL).  But, not an issue with Milone right now, we have other open 40-man spots, and it's late enough in the season where a 60-day DL assignment would probably be justified if we needed another spot.

DFA both of them.  Lets move on and add Albers to the list.  Even though Berrios has done no better he has potential - Albers does not.  Lets clear the path and start developing the pitchers (and lets get a new pitching coach who can develop the pitchers).

Milone to the DL, Pat Dean coming up. Pick you poison.

Is there enough for both of them?

I guess that it wouldn't matter anyway.  This team would just find another of the same ilk and throw them out there.

Lets get a new scouting director and minor league pitching coordinator while were at it!

Pat Dean. Sheesh. Not to knock the guy, but bring up a proven bullpen arm. If nothing else, Sean Burnett gets a final shot before moving on. Or Pat Light. Let's go wild. I'm sorry. We also need to see Alex WImmers. More see Alex Wimmers than Pat Dean who is...what number on the starting pitcher roll...and, yes, I know he is not coming up to start. Give me more Ryan O'Rourke at this point.

Seriously. Who will be with the Twins anywheres in 2017. Sean Burnett, Pat Dean, Jason Wheeler, Ryan O'Rourke, Andrew Albers, Tommy Milone, Buddy Boshers, Pat Light, Logan Darnell, Neil Ramirez. Those that MIGHT have a chance, yes (Wimmers, O'Rourke), advance them. Those that will be here for sure (Light, Wheeler), ADVANCE THEM AND ADD NOW!

Going to be quite a crowd around the training room at Target Field while the team is on the road come September.

Dean did nothing going back to make him more valuable to the Twins or convincing someone to sign him, instead of Logan Darnell, in the offseason.

But, hey, it makes Rochester a stronger team in their final stretch. So bonus points for the Twins front office there!
