Where in the World is Alex Meyer

Well, if it was an issue of arm fatigue, an argument could be made if he should've been put on the major league disabled list.

Which would suit me just find. Twist that knife in the front office.

Otherwise, why just NOT use him, DON'T have him sit around.

There has to be a pretty good story here!

Oh, no!  That's awfully harsh. Hopefully he/she doesn't have to go to Rochester, too?

Lol, that was well played. No Rochester for him...want him to have better development;) And, it will be fine- he really is not a troubled or mean child at all. Just has a motor that doesn't quit and doesn't nap.

OMG, the Twinkies could use him for sure!!!!

However, maybe Rochester is the right place for him with Berrios, Rosario, and Vargas being there, since he's 1/2 Puerto Rican from Momma. Yes, that is where he gets his temper, but I'll take the blame for the wild side of him. Glad I am able to find some comedy in my sons and Twins difficult times. I wouldn't quite call him a failed prospect yet;)

It wouldn't really matter to the team if he was on the MLB DL, except to Meyer's bottom line.  He'd have an extra ~20 days of service time and MLB salary.

As I mentioned before, I wouldn't be surprised if eventually the May 4th option was rescinded and a MLB DL stint was added retroactively.

Rochester has announced starters for the rest of the week, and again no Alex Meyer...

Last press report I saw was this, from the weekend:

http://www.startribune.com/twins-notes-mauer-out-call-again-shows-replay-catches-what-eyes-don-t/380339821/

Alex Meyer threw a bullpen session for Class AAA Rochester on Friday and reported no problems with his shoulder, Ryan said. The righthander will throw again Sunday and the Twins will made a decision on how to proceed. Meyer hasn’t pitched since his start for the Twins on May 3, after suffering shoulder fatigue.

Put him in the pen and get him good at pitching 1 inning. Maybe the shoulder is telling you something.

I'm starting to wonder if the shoulder thing is even really what's going on. This just seems way too weird, along with the timing and circumstances of it all. Especially with the team not really talking about it at all. It is not like it is uncommon for teams and players to keep dirty laundry hidden.

Yeah, I think that's where I'm leaning.  The other idea is that the shoulder really is hurt, which would be much worse news.

Rob Antony addressed this in Inside Twins today. Did anyone else catch it? I know he said Meyer had an MRI. I think it just showed some inflammation in the shoulder and they're going to have him rest it? Was that it?

Maybe I'm just dumb, but wouldn't an mri on a professional pitcher's shoulder ALWAYS show some inflammation?

You know, I find this ghost injury thing interesting as when players change teams, you don't hear about it.  I think this is what it is, shoulder inflammation, and probably a bit more than a typical pitchers.  Meyer has a history with these issues.  I have no problems taking it easy here.  Hopefully he heals up and is pitching again next month.

Per Phil Miller on Twitter:

"RHP Alex Meyer had an MRI on throwing shoulder. It showed only inflammation, no damage. He'll have a cortisone shot in hopes pain goes away."

Also, per Phil Miller on Twitter:

"Meyer, who hasn't pitched since May 3, has felt great in pen sessions, Twins say, but then minor stiffness returns next day. Hence the shot."

Sounds like a guy that should pitch once every 5 days instead of every day, no?

Yes. And, minor stiffness the next day...also sounds like every starting pitcher after every start, basically ever.

He will be back on the mound in no time. He might also have a little fresher arm than the other guys later in the season (hint, hint Twins)

At least we don't have to worry about him reaching his innings limit this season in the minors. Maybe he will get a real shot in September, when the roster deck is shuffled and we have a 6 or 7 man rotation of "looking at the future" - Berrios, May, Duffey, Dean, Meyer, Gibson and maybe even Stewart!@

Also sounds like a guy you don't pull from the rotation for emergency bullpen duty and completely mess up his routine....

Interesting that Meyer has been on Rochester's "active roster" (not DL) this whole time.

I wonder if that is to justify the option?  If he went on the DL without pitching in a game down there, he'd have an open-and-shut case to be on the MLB DL instead and retroactively collect service time and MLB pay.

Of course, now that he's missed a month, and Phil Miller's report suggests his current shoulder issues started with his last MLB appearance, I would imagine he's got a decent chance to recover that service time and pay anyway.  I am sure it's on Boras's to-do list. :)  And the Twins probably shouldn't care if they have to give it to him -- it's not likely to make much of a difference in his future arbitration or free agency cases, especially given his recent performance issues too.

On ESPN this morning:

Ryan said pitching prospect Alex Meyer was headed to the DL on Saturday with shoulder inflammation. Meyer hasn't pitched since being optioned to Triple-A Rochester last month and is seeking a second opinion on his injury.

Well, none of that is good news.

They think they're always right?

I found a recent picture of Meyer...

After the first shoulder surgery, he decided why not get more procedures done?! Now he has 1/2 inch longer fingers, a brand new elbow, and is now able to grow out a beard!
