gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/braves-ender-inciarte-trades.html Not really a surprise and the article merely states that the teams have touched base but nothing is close. From the article, "Still, Minnesota has been prominently linked to Storen in previous seasons, so it’ll be interesting to see if they take that interest to another level this winter, when Storen is said to be available in trades." Considering the bridges burned in Washington, I think the Twins could get Storen for their tradeable 2nd round pick. He's a FA at the end of the year.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 The circumstances are a bit unique with him, but the price of relievers has been very high. He should be cheaper than Kimbrel and Giles due to him being a rental, but that makes me want him less, as I still don't think this team is ready to make a run. However, we know the Twins don't leak rumors meaning this likely came from either the Nats or Storen. Could mean someone's desperate.

But I doubt it would matter for Storen, if we wanted a longer-term guy we would have pursued a free agent.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Nats just traded Escobar, played 3B last year, for Gott a young BP guy. Could we see a Plouffe for Storen type trade ?

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I would be very OK with a trade with the framework starting at Plouffe for Storen. Add a few prospects or other players to each side. I think Storen is underrated.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Storen is controlled for one more season, projected to make $8.8 mil in arbitration by MLBTR. If you were willing to pay that, I'm not sure why you wouldn't have simply pursued a FA reliever. It's not like our budget is so tight that we have to shed Plouffe's salary to take on Storen's.
Dr. Evil Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Maybe the Nats give us Storen and Gott for Plouffe and someone else. If we only have Storen 1 year we still got Gott.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 They like Storen better than what was on the FA market? You'd have to like him A LOT more. You are giving up an asset worth millions, to get a guy you have to pay nearly $9MM, for 1 year of control.
Dr. Evil Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 They can toss in Wilson Ramos to make the 1 year of control on Storen seem ok ....wink :0)

In terms of contracts and dollars, players aren't assets, they are liabilities. Seems a relatively even swap to me.

I'm not saying they're right but perhaps they don't like all these three year deals free agent relievers are getting. Maybe they just want a bridge until Burdi, Chargois, Reed, Peterson (and Jones after his vacation in Milwaukee) are ready.

Sorry, I thought we were discussing a prospect going back. So, you'd give up multiple years of a cost controlled average fielder, for 60 innings of a RP?

DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Storen and Ramos for Plouffe and Suzuki

DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Also I know a lot of people would be "hating" on this idea, but if you wanted to buy low on a great RP, I would inquire about Papelbon. Guy is still an elite arm, yes, he is a doucher, but then again IMO he is no worse than Hunter (Hunter punched a teammate, Hunter had a bunch of "controversial comments" etc) Also Papelbon has every reason in the world to be on his best behavior, if he can come to the Twins and stay out of any major issues involving teammates then he could be looking at a huge payday again on the open market. I'd bet Washington would even pick up a decent chunk of the bill.

DuluthFan Verified Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Wasn't Storen the guy who was upset that the Nationals tried to improve their team by picking up another closer (Pappelbon). Doesn't seem like a team guy, more like a guy interested in himself. I would pass. Seems like a bad clubhouse guy to me.

Seems like a bad clubhouse guy to me.Storen had a very real gripe about that, he was pitching well and taking him out of the closer role effects his arbitration numbers rather significantly. He had every right in the world to gripe, especially when Papelbons salary was already set regardless of closing or not. (The Nationals as a whole were a disaster last year anyways)

In that clubhouse, not agreeing with that management, might make you a "good" clubhouse guy...
