mlbtraderumors: Twins reached out on Storen

I'd do that deal.  Milone is bound determined that he is a starter (kinda like Mike Pelfrey).  The Twins don't need him either.  He's fine as a #5 maybe #4 starter but we already have enough of those as it is.

I think the question is whether or not the Nats would do it (and I have no idea what their pitching situation is).  They have plenty of front end pitching and having lost Zimmerman, that might not be a bad person for the back of the rotation, plus I think his stuff plays better in the NL.  On one hand, you have 2 more years of control with Milone vs. 1 with Storen.  Upside is obviously lower, but Milone is hardly a slouch either.

Actually Milone has 3 years of control.  He was a "Super 2" player like Plouffe, so he will have 4 arbitration seasons (and 2015 was only his first).

This. I think the whole closer thing is the next accepted baseball wisdom to crumble.

I think we are still kinda far away, as long as  "proven closers" are getting paid big bucks in arb, FA and via trades I don't think we are gonna see it go away anytime in the next few years.

That is why Storen was so upset about losing the closer role, it had nothing to do with him pitching in the 7th or 8th instead of the 9th, it's because every save he DOESN'T get costs him a very significant amount of money in arb and ultimately on the FA market.

Milone would fit in well with the Nats, I feel like they have lacked some good #5 options over the years. I guess it all depends on how fractured the relationship is with Storen and the club, if I were the Nats I would want to keep him around to give them a really nice 8th/9th inning bullpen.

If Milone gets traded to the Nats he's going to win the NL CY Young and the World Series. That's just how trades work around here

The idea of Milone for Storen is interesting, but brings up a lot of questions.

Do we actually think the Nationals would do that?  If not, what would we have to include on our end?  I don't see them being that interested in Plouffe as they've been very vocal about being committed to Rendon playing 3B only this year.

They could use some middle infield depth since it seems they have a lot of question marks about Espinosa and whether Trea Turner is ready.

What do you think the Twins could get back for Polanco and Milone?  Maybe Storen and Erick Fedde or Reynaldo Lopez?  Fedde is their #1 pick from 2014 and currently their #4 prospect, probably just out of the top 100.  Lopez, their #5 prospect, is another starter that has been in the top #100 but may end up being a relief pitcher.  Do we love Polanco too much for this?  I'd love to hear thoughts (or why this is a dumb idea)!

I'm not sure why we always have to make a trade to get a good reliever or other piece. Couldn't we just pay for a FA reliever? Trevor Plouffe is going to make 8 Million. If we added a good FA, It would have been an extra 8 million or less..What's the problem here..

quality relievers have been getting multiple years and it seems TR is reluctant to do more than one year.  We may get a reliever down the road through FA, but of the few top quality relievers left, I doubt any sign for just one year.  We'll pick through the scraps after all the big dogs eat, like normal.

I agree with your analysis of TR. It is unfortunate that it has to be that way. Yes, we'll be shopping in the bargain bin. Maybe Matt Thorton, low ERA. Low strikeouts. Sounds like a twins pitcher
