Wilson Ramos Trade Target?

According to MLB trade Rumors (http://www.mlbtrader...om/wilson-ramos) the Nationals could be looking to unload Wilson Ramos this offseason and I am translating that as we may be able to get him at a discount. I know he had a down year LY, but I for one would be all for it as he could pair with Kurt for this next season and help build the bridge to hopefully Garver or Turner in 2017. Even his down year was a marked improvement over Suzuki and he is 4 yrs younger. At worst he seems like a better Defense version of Kurt Suzuki and at best he is an All Star Catcher.

What do you think it would take? Would we have to include Plouffe or could we just get him with prospects? For the record I would be on board with including Plouffe if we could get him in return.

Maybe we could re-sign Matt Capps and send him back to them in exchange? ;)

I would be open for a Ramos reunion to the Twins. A Ramos/Zuke platoon is very respectable IMO. I guess it depends on what direction the Nationals want to go with who they want to acquire. Just my speculation they'd probably look for proven MLB players to capitalize on the stars already in place.

Plouffe or Gibson is a good place to start like most other trade offers on TD.....

Platooning those two is pretty impossible, since both are righties.  Sharing time at catcher can happen, but I don't think that either will hit as well as Pinto at this point.  Ramos does bring some defense with him.  Nothing respectable about Suzuki.  He is on the bottom 20% of the league's catchers pretty much in any category.

Ramos isn't really a good player anymore.  His obp in the NL last year was .258.  He has some pop but he's an out machine.  Why give up something for that?

If they can't work out a deal for Lucroy they should do it. I wouldn't give much up though. Ramos has never even put together one good full year for the Nats since his rookie season. Plouffe has more value by himself if you ask me.

I think that is a fair way to look at it. Definitely a lot of risk with Ramos staying healthy...I would prefer not to include Plouffe, though may be swayed if had to. The risk is mitigated some for us that we have ready replacements for Plouffe...we don't yet have that at Catcher unfortunately.

If the Nationals go after Wieters, we may be able to get Ramos for less...interesting to see how it plays out. I guess with Ramos as opposed to a guy like AJ, there is more upside potential.

Good to get that one out of the way. :)

Is Plouffe even a fit for the Nationals? They have a 3Bman under contract for 2016. Maybe Yunel Escobar's defense isn't up to snuff, but it still means a three-way trade which is hard to pull off.

They need bullpen pieces. I would imagine they would like one guaranteed guy right away (too bad Fien didn't have a good year in 2015, but I suppose Jepsen and Pressly) and one on the way soon (Burdi, Reed). And maybe close-ish catcher (Garver).

I'd gamble on an A/AA prospect for him but that's about it. He's never done a whole lot at the MLB level but in a 50/50 time split would be an upgrade from most of the free agent options.

Way more intrigued about Storen.

When have the Twins not had their pockets picked by the Nationals? I can't remember a time that the Twins even got a fair trade value. Ryan seems to get the short stick every time.

I wonder if the Nationals would have any interest in Arcia as a left-handed 4th/5th outfielder? Seems like they could use a power bat off the bench/back-up option. I guess that would make Bryce their back-up CF, but that seems like a possible move for them.

Ramos could become a valuable trade chip if the Nats do sign a free-agent catcher. Enough teams need upgrading behind-the-plate and his salary makes him an okay choice. But I'm not sure how much I would give up for the guy. Okay, send Meyer back!

I would take Ramos in a heartbeat, Suzuki instantly becomes a backup in that scenario which is fine by me (no 50/50 split)

Not sure who the twins have of value to the Nationals though. That is the problem as both teams should be "going for it" in 2016 Milone would make sense but I'm guessing that's not enough, and they might not have room for him in the rotation anyways

I think people are really overrating Ramos. He's a FA at the end of the year, he's never shown the ability to hit.  The only time he's not been an out machine is when he's hit 8th in an NL lineup - in his career when he's not in the 8th spot, his OBP is .280.  The concern when the Twins traded him was that he was turning into a Miguel Olivo and that's more or less what's happened.  By WAR, he and Suzuki were both within the same margin of error.
