Lazarus Provisional Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 If May and Meyer needed more incentive to get stretched out and on a role in AAA, this should about do it. Delta's stock just went up on the news.
drunksam Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Why do these bad years seem so inundated with bad luck? #@!&
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I suspected Pelfrey would get first crack at any rotation opening, but I really didn't want to find out like this...
whydidnt Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Not great news, that's for sure. I didn't realize the first time suspension was now up to 80 games. That should deter anyone, but think of it this way; If he used it last year to put up better numbers, he got a nice payday, guess not as much of a deterrent as you would think. And, of course the Twins will call up the 28 year old rookie rather than a younger guy. We need to keep the average age of the team as high as possible.
curt1965 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 They all "never knowingly would take anything illegal." Really? That's all you got? And somehow the word 'current' rubbed me the wrong way. This is really going to be a test for Molitor- I would guess the team is pretty down right now.

mudcat14 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 It's not a big mystery here. The Twins learned their lesson with Hicks each of the past two seasons. Danny Santana & Vargas enjoyed tremendous success last year after beginning the season in the minors. We will have as many as 5-6 rookies in the regular line-up/rotation at some point this year, but the only rookie to break camp is Graham because we would lose him otherwise. I promise the Twins of June & July 2015 will be markedly different from the April line-up.

John Bonnes Site Manager Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Yup - Pelfrey to the rotation and Thompson to the bullpen over Caleb Thielbar (or Mark Hamburger). My #1 concern about Molitor now is going to be bullpen management. I think the concern for May is that he isn't ready, particularly his ability to throw our of the stretch. What a kick in the #%*$. FWIW, I don't see stanozolol as having much in the way of legitimate uses. It was also the drug Ben Johnson was nailed on.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Just half a season. He will be back on time for the post-season push and the World Series run... I hope that the new CBA will allow teams to void contract under those circumstances. I really do not care to see a steroid cheat in the team and really don't feel like rooting for him. And will have to for 4 years. Let's hope that Pelfrey pitches lights out. Thompson baffles me, but not that they have many choices. I'd rather see May, but maybe not ready.

In the US is only a vet drug and used for things like "wasting". It's last human indication was taken off the label before the Twins won a World Series ('84.) Widely used in the bodybuilding and professional wrestling communities for "cutting".
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Well then...I believe we all agreed that if Pelfrey made it over May we'd riot. So start doing this folks: http://marcellusdrilling.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/sharpening-pitchfork.jpg
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 How in the heck do you not know? Sheeesh … and in this era, just plain stupid. But seriously, I guess we figured someone would be going down or going away, just never expected this. But Pelfrey to the rotation and Thompson up? Brock, I'll join you for that drink … or three.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Wow, didn't see that coming. Pelfrey over May/Meyer is sorta defensible but Thompson was a real surprise. Is he a LOOGY or supposed to be more than that?

James Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 So who's projected to go #1 in the 2016 draft class? Why do you care who the Phillies are going pick? But seriously... Come on. The Twins just can't catch a break.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 TD needs to switch away from Papa Johns coupons in favor of Whiskey coupons so we can all collectively get smashed in the next few hours. I want to be able to get a free bottle of Jameson with the promo code **** this ****.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I wonder if there was much of an appeal process? Did the Twins know this was coming? Also, I hope this and last year's Nolasco fiasco doesn't turn off TR on signing bigger money free agents. He just needs more practice, is all.

jimmer Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 'Paging Mike Pelfrey. Mike Pelfrey to the rotation!'
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 The Pohlads what? Will be more turned off on big FA than Ryan?Computer went wonky on me. Meant to say that my guess was that the Pohlads were more into these FA signings than Ryan was so they are the ones who would have to change their minds. I think Ryan is much more comfortable with Correa and Pelfrey like signings.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 But seriously... Come on. The Twins just can't catch a break. It's a bad break.....compounded by a bafflingly stupid decision to follow. So not only did we waste a draft pick but we didn't even bother to call up May. That's the salt in the wound.

First, my deepest apologies to my family, fans, colleagues, teammates and my current employer the Minnesota Twins. I am very disappointed that I tested positive for a performance enhancing drug. I am frustrated that I can’t pinpoint how the substance in question entered my body. I would never knowingly take anything illegal to enhance my performance. What I can guarantee is I never knowingly took anything illegal to enhance my performance. That’s just not me, never has been and never will.” So Maybe Pelf did give it to him.Did he learn denial quotes from Clemens?

jimmer Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 There goes his All Star game chances for this year.
James Verified Member Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Do the Twins have to pay Santana while he's suspended?Nope. Maybe this was all planned by the Pohlads. They can change public perception that they are unwilling to spend money on payroll by signing free agents and then get them suspended and not actually have to pay... sneaky. Or... it's just another example of a pro athlete thinking that the get away with breaking the rules.
