Game-time forecast: Partly cloudy. Winds blowing in from right field at 10-20 m.p.h. Temperature around 80.

ChiTown will be along with the starting lineups. She's got a leash and the lineups go along with her on walks. Of course most city laws state that she has to clean up after them.

Okay, hmm ....

Things to Think About:

1. Trevor May -- There is no question that Trevor May is thought #1 today. We all wished so hard that he would be called up and start working his magic for the big club. The Twins need young pitchers to arrive and perform and I'm sure that was part of all the wishing. However... It just doesn't always work out perfectly and that lack of perfection is a pretty large bump in the road for young Trevor May. He has made 4 starts and one other appearance with the Twins. His ERA currently sits at 10.42 and that's about the exact opposite of what Trevor May and all of Twins Territory wanted to see. He has lowered his walk total and that is wonderful and this has produced more zero's in some innings. However... He has still been knocked out by the occasional horrific innings where his control and simple mechanics leave him and he can't seem to get them back.

2. Eventual Improvement -- Some Major League pitchers do not get the chance to improve. They get their shot and once that shot is done... They don't get another one. Some Major League pitchers keep getting a chance to correct themselves and eventually they do... The light bulb goes on and they become helpful major league pitchers. And... Some pitchers keep getting chance after chance and never figure it out. Which of these 3 scenarios will be the Trevor May story? You are going to have to tune in for awhile and find out. Until that time... patience and a large dose of it may be necessary.

3. Young Pitchers that get it done right out of the gate -- Not every story is like Trevor May... There are some great stories of pitchers that come up from the minors and become immediate forces. Just this year alone... You can point to DeGrom with the Mets... Shoemaker with the Angels... McHugh with the Astro's... Stroman with the Jays... Anderson with the D-Backs... Paxton with the Mariners... Despaigne with the Padres. There seems to be a rash of these types entering MLB Baseball this year. There are a few... unfortunately... nobody wearing a Twins uniform.

4. The White Sox -- Don't lose to the White Sox Tonight... I mean it... I'm not kidding. Don't lose to the White Sox tonight.

5. Careers -- I was talking with my younger son and I asked him if he had any ideas on what career path would interest him in the future. He's 16 and he really couldn't think of anything and I suppose he has plenty of time to head a certain direction but he asked me for some advice and I told him... Try to avoid any career where people depend on you for anything... anything at all.

Santana at short, Hicks in center, Pinto catching, Vargas DHing - this is a lineup worth watching in September, not just today but the rest of the way.

/ edit - my only change would be Parmelee instead of Schafer, and that amounts merely to a disagreement with the Twins over which player we want to see whether he can be more than he seems - and the likely answer is "neither one" :)

I'll be at the Miracle game this evening. Hope we don't have a rain delay. With parents in tow we will likely not stay for the whole thing anyway.

That's like predicting light rain after heavy rain. It's something though. Go May.

Well, maybe I won't watch then. Already had rain today.

First starts for Pinto and Hicks since June

Man.  They really must have been in Gardy's doghouse.

After 3, the Miracle are up 6-1. Highlighted by a Harrison mash off the monster and a Hicks HR

He did the mash...the monster mash, in other words.

I have a fundamental question.

What was the thinking behind making Target Field with the dimensions it has? I've never heard it talked about. Why such a big park? in other words. Who decided, and why, etc. Anybody know something about it?

Well Dick, with a 3-0 lead and young Mr May on the mound, this one's about over.

Two innings, no runs against. Clearly, everything has been rectified.

I think it's nearly the same as the Dome, IIRC.

Trying to avoid the jolt of Chief's electrodes...

I flipped on the game and see that May hadn't self-destructed.

Now that I'm paying attention, I expect that to change.

Fine line between solopsism and pattern recognition...
