Gleeman Reports Twins Have Made Correa Substantial Offer

We should move on from Correa , winter meetings should of been the  deadline ...

Need a catcher  , go get one  ...

2022 and 2021 weren't exciting twins baseball  , help is needed to bring back an exciting product on the field  , coaching needs to get it in gear and inspire the troops  ....

Greg Gagne wasn't overly exciting, but we still managed to win.

If CC is sincere in his interest in the Ts, then I'm all for working with Boras until he signs or goes elsewhere. My fear is that Boras could use T interest to jack up CC's price with other teams who spend this kind of money as a regular strategy and will beat the Ts all to heck in a bidding war.

Unfortunately, comparing the contract offer to historical Twins contract offers does not matter

The only comparison that matters is the contract offer to other existing contract offers for Correa....

Is this referring to this morning's article in the Atlantic?  I don't have a subscription, but from the title it appears to be a recap of the winter meetings.   It doesn't seem like Aaron Gleeman is breaking news with a report of a new offer.

The house analogy is missing a lot of context. Were the furnace and car upgrade planned purchases with in depth pricing done to have a good estimation of what each would cost, or at least what you're willing to pay for each? Cuz the Twins, and every team, have done that math. The Twins aren't suddenly going to offer Vazquez twice as much because they miss on Correa. They know what they feel his worth and the max they'll go for him. They know that max fits next to the max they'll go for Correa. The decisions weren't made independently, but the math doesn't change anymore. If either market goes above their already determined maxes they walk away.

You're absolutely 100% correct and I agree completely. That's the way the Twins do business. Imo, the thing/problem is...there's always going to be a team, and possibly several teams, that ARE willing to overpay for a player. Sometimes you have to be willing to do that, to get what you want. The Twins need to be flexible enough to make an exception, when the situation dictates it. I'm not saying that they should way overpay for Correa, or Vasquez, or whomever...just that they need to consider doing that, rather than having a flat, cutoff dollar figure.

I think Vazquez might be holding out to see if the Twins get Correa signed. He wants to play for a contender. If the Twins DON'T sign Correa he is likely to head elsewhere.

I have a subscription to The Athletic (assuming Atlantic was a typo) and you're absolutely right, it's just a recap of the winter meetings and there's nothing new here.

The Twins have a contract offer of 285 million for 10 years.  This has been reported by a couple people.  Based on that information,  the Twins have the best offer currently on the table.  The only interested party at this point that could be willing to outbid is the Giants.   However if they were willing to outbid, I thought they would have done it by now.  Boras has a history of going directly to the owners to try to increase the contract,  I don't think that will work with the Twins.  It could possibly work with the Giants or another team that were to get involved.  I think the Twins feel comfortable waiting this out right now.  I could see Correa signing a 4 to 6 year contract with opt outs and trying again,  but it is fairly clear his past history is limiting the number of teams interested in him.  He has stated he prefers a long term contract.  When you knock out the Dodgers, Houston, Red Sox and Yankees,  and the Padres are willing to get Bogaerts instead of you,  that really limits the teams willing to spend big on you.  Just think where he would be at if the Twins weren't willing to go big,  225-250mil maybe???

Likely very small, to the point it's almost nonexistent. It's pretty clear Vasquez doesn't want to be in a relatively even timeshare, and that's the approach the Twins have steered towards.

Money, years, and in this case playing time rule the day. If Miami decided to grant him all three wishes he'd be a Marlin today. That's how this works.

I think the Twins are putting out an offer that they think Correa is willing to sign.  I think there is a possibility they are 25 to 30 million over the current market for Correa right now.  Maybe I am wrong, but the Twins are currently the highest offer right now.  

Ashbury,  they may be trying to let fans know they have the offer out there.  They may start to pressure Boras and Correa and tell them they will take the offer off the table.  There is no rumors anyone is offering more right now.

What's more likely, the Twins are bidding against themselves and Boras (and the baseball world) has been playing them this entire time, or MN isn't alone in committing the type of money reported, i.e. they aren't setting the market?

Minnesota put out the first offer.  I don't think they have budged.  I do think Boras is trying to get them to bid against themselves, I don't think its going to work.

I guess we'll see, but it'd be shocking if the baseball world was totally wrong and Correa signed for sub $300M with the Twins being $25M+ above any other interested party.
