Similar COF have brought back only A or A+ level prospects the last couple of deadlines, unless part of a bigger trade package.

As you note, that’s why I would not move him now at the deadline, and I would try to package him.

I see zero benefit to another rental reliever.

If Neto is what you hope Culpepper turns into, then it's worth discussing.  Neto's under control through 2029 I believe.

If you are willing to go that short a time for Neto, why not slightly longer for Culpeper, if you are the Twins?

It's very worth discussing!

It comes down to professional talent evaluators.  If you have your guys telling you that Culpepper is as close to can't-miss at SS as can be, then the extra years would tip the balance for the GM.  If they couch everything in terms like "if all goes well", then Neto's track record could be what decides it.  Health and injury-proneness, likewise.

Guys like Larnach also serve to remind me that while we think of "six years of team control," the actual case can often be one or more years "lost" due to not being ready to produce right out of the gate.  Supposing that Larnach has now reached his plateau of productiveness, we're getting about 2 years (counting next year), not 6.  With a bright, shiny new prospect there's the assumption he'll be great right away, and that needs to be tempered, even if ultimately he's really good.

Is there steam on Caratini to the Yankees?

I haven't heard anything about that happening. It is possible, but I think that was just thrown out as a possibility by fans.

Mike had stated he thought that was who the Yankees were targeting.   I would be interested in that.

Caratini is signed for 2027, Jeffers is not.  Trade Jeffers for more.

Robbie Ray to the Padres.

Similar Twins price was probably Riley Quick and Quentin Young.  Probably a no for me on that.  Seems like Giants got a better haul than the Jays did for Gausman.

No way I deal quick for Ray.

The "what you hope Culpepper becomes" part is a player here.

Larnach for a reliever feels like it’s bound to happen… Beyond that idk. Then send the Pohlad private jet to pick up Walker Jenkins

Guessing more like coach on Delta flight 5667.

Take the bird in the hand. The only other argument is Culpepper would be cheaper, but if the Twins are stretching to reach the new $150 million salary floor, that doesn't matter much.

I will be so annoyed if they trade him for a reliever. Unless it's a guy with four years of control.
